Twitter: After the takeover of Elon Musk, here are 6 things that should change

Elon Musk is now launching headlong into social networks, after Twitter accepted his offer to takeover of the company. As the new owner, the billionaire will try to realize his vision for the platform, fighting what it lacks, in his words. Many Internet users wondered (and sometimes with humor) what would happen to the social network in the future. Today we offer you find out about future developments which could well be implemented by Elon Musk.

1) an edit button for your tweets

At the beginning of April, Elon Musk asked its Twitter followers if they thought the platform should add an edit button that would allow users to fix typos in their posts and make other changes. The answer was a resounding yes, with 73.6% of respondents saying they wanted the feature. During an interview at the TED talk on April 14Elon Musk followed up the poll by confirming his support for adding an edit button.

2) the release of the twitter algorithm

Elon Musk believes that Twitter should make its algorithm freely available. An open algorithm would make public the code used by Twitter to determine which tweets to promote, and which to hide from users’ feeds. This modification of the Twitter software would also make visible the role of computer programs in moderating and controlling content on the platform. Making the code public, in theory, would make the service more transparent, or precisely, as Elon Musk puts it, would show that there is no of “manipulations” at work. It should be remembered, however, that reading an algorithm is not easy for everyone, and that it will be advisable to learn about the nuances of the latter, if it is indeed made public.

3) Advertisements

Elon Musk suggested, in a since-deleted tweet, earlier this month, that the ad could be removed for users Twitter Premium Blue. And since Twitter has historically made 90% of its profits from ads, this would be a significant shift in the company’s revenue model. I have to say that Elon Musk previously said he’s not buying Twitter for the money, and that’s arguably why he said he wants to adjust the company’s revenue model to focus less on ads, potentially putting more focus on subscriptions.

4) Fight against cryptocurrency scams

One of the main complaints of Elon Musk against Twitter was the considerable number of bots present on the social network pretending to be real people. Elon Musk promised to crack down on botsmake it easier to authenticate human users, and even eliminate many cryptocurrency scams on the service, although he has not yet provided details on how he will reduce the problem.

5) an evolution in content moderation

The main criticism made by Elon Musk on the social network Twitter is how the service moderates content, which for the billionaire amounts to “stifling freedom of expression”. Twitter’s new owner has already spoken out against outright banning users who break the rules, and instead offered a “timeout”. He said he would only ban illegal content, but he was silent on banning racism, harassment and a a number of other topics. So it would seem that instead of banning ad vitam eternal accounts, Elon Musk proposes to ban them for a time only, unless the content turns out to be illegal.

6) the return of banned accounts

The problem of Elon Musk with Twitter’s censorship largely revolves around the idea that the company unilaterally bans any user it deems to have seriously violated its rules, including former United States President Donald Trump following the Capitol riots on January 6 of last year. For the moment, it is still unknown if Donald Trump and the other banned users will be allowed to return to Twitter, but it is a possibility not to neglect.
