Last month, we revealed the terrible news concerning the next HBO series adapted from famous video games from the Naughty Dog studio, The Lasf of Us, and the postponement of its release, originally scheduled for this year. And while fans are eager to discover this future adaptation of the survival horror, recent information could still be synonymous with disappointment for many fans.
an uncertain future
A television series based on video games The Last of Us is currently in production for HBO, and we will find Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey immersed in a post-apocalyptic worldand who will respectively play the role of Joel Miller and Ellie. However, Pascal recently hinted that the series might skip on a key moment in the games plot.
The website comic book asked the actor who will play Joel if he knew the fate of his character in the video game The Last of Us Part II (2020). Pedro Pascal then declared:
Oh, I know. I know it. I know what’s happening to him, and I may not even be able to.
The rather mysterious ending to Pascal’s statement then suggests that the series might choose not to portray Joel’s death following Abby Anderson’s revenge.

Joel’s death is considered a controversial subject among the fans of The Last of Us. The sequel hints that the player will switch from controlling Joel to controlling Ellie over the course of the adventure, before switching to the point of view of a character named Abby. We then learn that Abby’s father was a member of the Fireflies that Joel had killed in the first opus. when he rescued Ellie, and it was Abby and her group, the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), who caused Joel Miller’s death.
From then on, players must split their playing time between Ellie and Abby. While some were shocked by the way Joel’s death was handled, others saw it as another example of the game’s “forced diversity” of having the player control two female characters. The speech surrounding Joel’s death followed the controversial leak of major elements of the story that occurred before the official launch of the game The Last of Us Part II.
Series The Last of Us is currently in production, with filming taking place in Calgary, in the Canadian province of Alberta. The first season will feature ten episodes revisiting the events that took place in the first game, while developing new subplots. If we knew that the first season would only adapt the first opus, we could nevertheless hope that a sequel would be launched, if successful. However, the confidences of Pedro Pascal cast doubt on the possibility of a season 2.
Along with Pascal and Ramsey, the series will also star Nick Offerman as Bill, Anna Torv as Tess, Merle Mandridge as Marlene, and Gabriel Luna as Tommy.
Although the release date of the series has not yet been officially announced.Casey Bloys, chief content officer for HBO and HBO Max, said the series The Last of Us would air after 2022.
