nicolas cage in the batman?

After about a year of delay, the reboot of Batman has finally arrived in theaters, starring Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight. Although set outside the DC Extended Universe, The Batman is the first chapter of a new universe in which Warner Bros. already invests a lot of resources and energy.

As reminded Screeninga trilogy is planned, especially when we see that the first film is already a real success at the worldwide box office, but the studio also plans to expand the franchise on HBO Max. As executive producer, Reeves will develop a number of spin-off series set in the universe of The Batman. One of them, Penguinis already under development, with Colin Farrell reprising the role of Oswald Cobblepot.

And even if a sequel to The Batman has yet to be officially announced, a Hollywood icon has already expressed interest in the new franchise. In an interview with the channel Fox 7 Austin at SXSW 2022, the actor was asked what role he would like to play in the superhero universe. Cage then spoke of his desire to join the Batman universe, confiding that he had thought about how he could play an atypical DCEU villain, Egg Skull. (Original Egghead), stating the following:

I thought about it with [la sortie de] this new Batman with Robert Pattinson, which I can’t wait to see. The villain that Vincent Price played in the 60s series, Eggskull. I think I would like to play it and I could make it terrifying, I have an idea for that. So let them know at Warner Bros. that I’m in for Egg Skull.

a forgotten character

Few fans are familiar with this character, and for good reason, as he has had very few appearances. Edgar Head, aka Egg Skull, first appeared on the show Batman 60s, which featured Adam West in the title role. The character was played by Vincent Price and, as the name suggests, Edgar Head was characterized in particular by his obsession with eggs, but he was also a criminal mastermind.

Although subsequently the character appeared in other works like in the comics Batman: Shadow of the Bat 1990s, but also in the animated series Batman: Alliance of Heroes or the movie lego batman (2017), it was often in the background or anecdotally, which did not improve his popularity and helped to keep the character in oblivion.

Pattinson’s Batman Has Already Met the Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman in the Movie The Batmanand director Matt Reeves has already hinted at other characters who may appear in future projects. Although there is no confirmation regarding the potential return of Egg Skull, Cage’s presence in the Batman franchise could be interesting. We’ll see if Reeves decides to take Cage’s recent comments into account for the evolution of the franchise in the years to come.
