Stranger Things: season 4 will be worthy of Game of Thrones according to the creators

Scheduled for this summer, season 4 of the Netflix series Stranger Things looks ambitious. In any case, this was recently announced by the creators, the Duffer brothers. But more, they compare the continuation of the adventures of Eleven to a monument: Game Of Thrones.

In two parts

Broadcast on May 27, season 4 of Stranger Things is long overdue since the end of the previous one, it was in 2019, already. The information arrives in dribs and drabs, we learned some time ago that three new characters will come to accompany Eleven, Mike, Nancy or Steve in their adventures.

We also knew that this 4th act would be broadcast in 2 parts (volume 1 on May 27, and volume 2 on July 1), like other successful Netflix series, such as the last season of Casa de Papel. In a press release, the Duffer brothers justified this choice by ” the extent ” that this new season will have. Words that in any case make you salivate.

Of Game Of Thrones under the hood

But that’s not all. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer took the slider even higher by dropping at the Contenders Television conference of Deadline that this 4th season will look like Game Of Thrones. This is due to the story spanning more locations, with various character groups advancing their own story arcs, all forming the longest season yet.

We like to humorously call it ‘the season Game Of Thrones’ because it explodes on all sides and that’s what makes it unique. Joyce and the Byers family left town at the end of season 3. They are now in California, where we will have the opportunity to recreate an aesthetic atmosphere à la ET, the extraterrestrial. Hopper is in Russia, while a small group remains in Hawkins. These three stories will eventually collide and set a different tone from previous seasons..”, promises Matt.

Indeed, the creators used the scattering of the characters in several places to give substance to their words and to make them something longer. An idea which was born then in full phase of writing of the scenario:

We just realized halfway through the writing phase that this season was going to be huge. We are of course referring to Game Of Thrones through these multiple points of view, but also in terms of twists and revelations,” said Ross Duffer.

longer episodes

The project will therefore be major, and the challenge taken up for the Duffer brothers who are expected at the turn after a few errors during the previous seasons. Especially since during the conference, Matt and Ross confirm that Season 4 will do “double the length” from any other season beforeeach episode lasting an hour or more.

I don’t believe any of the episodes go below an hour – even for Season 1 there were 35 minute episodes. We forget that sort of thing. This season they will be very long, so I think they will last twice as long as any season.”

If the series should end with a final season 5, the creators announced last year that they were considering expanding the universe through spin-offs to extend the experience. If this information may still seem vague at the moment, we will have to wait to see if the success will be there for the Netflix series which will return to our screens on May 27th.
