Stranger Things: Millie Bobby Brown criticizes the "disgusting media" who sexualize her

Season 4 of Stranger Things approach now with great strides, after long years of waiting following the pandemic that has raged. We return today to the declarations of Millie Bobby Brownwho plays the role of Eleven in the series, and which evokes the sexualization of which she is a victim in Hollywood.

Growing up in the spotlight

During an interview granted on April 4, 2022 to the podcast The Guilty Feministthe star of Stranger Things, Millie Bobby Brown spoke about the “disgusting” way she was sexualized in Hollywood. The young woman, just 18 years old, confided in the pressures suffered by Hollywood when she was only a child star.

The young woman begins by declaring :

I deal with the same things as any 18-year-old, namely growing up, having relationships and friendships, and that’s all of it. Being loved and trying to fit in is hard enough, and you’re trying to find yourself while doing that. The only difference is, of course, I do it in front of the public eye.

Hypersexualization of children in Hollywood

Apart from this, Millie Bobby Brownwho landed the lead role of Eleven in Stranger Things when she was just 12, said she noticed “a difference” in the way people have been treating her since she turned 18last February:

I definitely see a difference between the way people act, and the way the press and media reacted to me coming of age. But it’s disgusting, and so I think it’s just a really good representation of what’s going on in the world: it represents the way young girls are sexualized and so I’ve been dealing with that now, but also since still.

The British actress recalled a time when she wore a poofy dress at a red carpet event, which had earned him many criticisms, when she was just a child. Likewise, W Magazinein 2017, had released a new issue with the following title “Why TV is sexier than ever”all accompanied by a list of series actors, with major actors, except Millie Bobby Brown, who was then only 13 years old. And the young woman is not the only cast member of Stranger Things bears the brunt of this hypersexualization.

Finn Wolfhard is no slouch

If Millie Bobby Brown has been hypersexualized under the Hollywood spotlight, the rest of the cast of Stranger Things is no exception. One of the most striking examples is how Finn Wolhard, who portrays the role of Mike, was seen. While the latter was only 14 years old in 2017, the American model Ali Michaelthen 27, shared a photo of the actor on her Instagram story, with the following text “Without wanting to be weird, give me a sign in 4 years”.

In the United States, sexual majority is at 18and this message generated a very big bad buzz. Finn Wolfhard, for his part, said he found Ali Michael’s approach particularly “weird and disgusting”. Millie Bobby Brown therefore, in this last interview, only evoked a dark aspect of Hollywood that we have known for years, but who seems to have a hard time evolving. The star thus denounced not only the degree of additional sexualization to which she has been subjected since she was 18, but also the permanent sexualization she suffered as a child star.
