Obi-Wan Kenobi: the meeting place for Star Wars fans

17 years later Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith, comedian Ewan McGregor is back as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Indeed, the actor returns to the role of the famous Jedi for a mini-series directed by Hossein Amini and Joby Harold. As the plot unfolds a few years after the events of Revenge of the Siththe show will bring together a fairly impressive cast including Benny Safdie, Sung Kang, Kumail Nanjiani but above all Joel Edgerton back as Uncle Owen and Hayden Christensen who will return in the iconic role of Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader!

Disney unveiled, a few days ago, the first trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi. The opportunity for fans to spot very exciting references here and there. Among these, one of them caught our attention the most. Indeed, these first images do not hesitate to emphasize the antagonists of the series, including the Grand Inquisitor.

Who is the Grand Inquisitor

The real fans of Star Wars already know who it is. But for the others, we are here to offer you a small summary of the CV of this emblematic villain. The Grand Inquisitor belongs to the Pau’an race.a species native to the planet Utapau, which spectators have come across, for example, in Revenge of the Sith. Regarding the Grand Inquisitor, he is an ambiguous protagonist, since he begins his career on the light side of the Force. Indeed, this individual, whose real name we do not know, was first a Jedi Knight, and more particularly a guardian of the Jedi Temple of Coruscant.

Shortly before Order 66, the Grand Inquisitor begins to lose faith in the Jedi mantra. Their recurring lies and the Anakin Skywalker’s switch to the dark side, lead him to turn to the voice of the Sith. He is then recruited by Palpatine who appoints him at the head of his Inquisitors: elite warriors who are tasked with hunting down and killing the last surviving Jedi. It is therefore for this purpose that he is sent after Obi-Wan, and that he will appear in the Disney + series.

The Grand Inquisitor is not a dark stranger for those who had the perseverance to watch the animated series Star Wars. In effect, The Grand Inquisitor is a recurring character in the series Star Wars: Rebels. He is also the main antagonist of the heroes of Dave Filoni’s series in the first two seasons. Later in the series, Ezra Miller even has a vision of the Inquisitor in his Jedi Temple Guardian form. A way to reconnect the character’s story with its origins.

In Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Grand Inquisitor is played by Rupert Frienda comedian who has notably been seen in The Last Legion or more recently in Hitman: Agent 47and who also appears in the cast of seasons 3 to 5 of Homeland.
