Star Wars: these 7 upcoming games promise to be Dantesque

The universe created by George Lucas inspires, and not only on the side of the series (see our article on the Star Wars Celebration 2022 to come). Electronics Arts announced a few months ago to launch the development of three games stamped Star Wars. A sequel of Fallen Ordera strategy game and an FPS developed under the leadership of Respawn Entertainment.

On the other hand, the excitement surrounding the recent release Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (best start in the entire history of LEGO games) is here to confirm that the galaxy far away remains very profitable.

Especially since now, more and more studios, like Quantic Dream, Ubisoft and Skydance, have the possibility of creating their own stories in the universe of science fiction of George Lucas since the exclusive agreement of EA with the franchise, which lasted almost ten years, ended.

Of Kotor to Star Wars: Eclipse passing by Amy Henning’s project, here are the next games Star Wars coming.

#1 Untitled Star Wars FPS (Respawn/EA)

We told you about it last February, the future FPS on which EA should set itself up as a successor to Star Wars: Battlefront II (2017). Especially since we know that the director of the project is none other than Peter Hirschmann, the man who had worked on the first two battle front in the 2000s.

However, we know very little about this currently untitled FPS.. We had all the same hypothesized the presence of the ARC Troopers as a faction to embody previously.

#2 Untitled Star Wars Strategy Game (Respawn / Bit Reactor / EA)

We also mentioned the development of a Star Wars strategy game, still under the leadership of EA, and developed by the new studio Bit Reactor. Created by the artistic director of new XCOM games, Greg Foertsch, who also founded Bit Reactor, this next game will therefore be the result of a collaboration between Respawn and EA. As with the FPS, we know very little about it, and no release date has been revealed.

#3 Sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (Respawn/EA)

Latest game under the EA banner, a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is also on the way. Fallen Order, released in 2017, was very well received by players and the press, for its versatility, between demanding action, platform and RPG.

If we imagine that several characters from the first opus will be present, little information has yet filtered on this sequel. But according to former Kotaku reporter Jason Schreier, the game could be released as soon as the end of the year.

#4 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake (Aspyr/Sony)

Considered by many to be the best Star Wars game, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (this due to its original scenario and its quite revolutionary gameplay.), or more commonly known as Kotor will undergo a very big refresh since it will be the subject of a remake from Sony via Aspyr.

A trailer of a few seconds released in September 2021 rekindled the ardor of fans of the iconic RPG, which will be released exclusively on Playstation 5 and PC. In the information menu, it is mentioned that Aspyr on the Playstation Blog that thehe game brought together a team of industry veterans, but also former teams present on the original title :

We’re rebuilding one of the greatest RPGs of all time for a new generation, with modern tech, features, and graphics, while maintaining the integrity of the story and characters we once cherished. “

Words that testify to the ambition of Aspyr, a studio used to porting games related to the Star Wars franchise.

Thus, it will be a question of entirely reconstructing the universe of KOTOR, under a new face, while retaining its basic features and history. Recently, some rumors spoke of a gameplay close to god of war, released in 2018, as well as niohin 2017. Regarding its release date, nothing has been specified.

#5 Star Wars: Eclipse (Quantic Dream)

With an incredible trailer, this Star Wars: Eclipse looks daunting. If we know very little about him, apart from this trailer whose story should take us to the edge of the galaxy, the events will take place during the High Republic,

For its part, the studio evoked a mixture between narration and action, which would slightly detach this new game from the usual, very narrative productions. Some internal problems related to recruitment as well as an engine that would ultimately not be adapted to the game’s ambitions. All this could delay the game’s release to 2028. Other rumors estimate a window around 2025, for a development that would have started at the beginning of 2021. We can’t wait.

#6 Amy Hennig’s Star Wars Project (Skydance New Media)

another game Star Wars was announced a few days ago by Skydance and Luscafilm Games, who will sign on this occasion the great return of Amy Henning, known in particular for being at the origin of the first Uncharted games – who had already worked for Electronic Arts (EA) on the Star Wars franchise.

The Skydance studio then describes its Star Wars project, still without an official title, as being a “cinematic-rich action-adventure game with an original story “, without giving further details. In any case, here is a new opportunity for Hennig to direct a Star Wars game after the cancellation of the Ragtag project at EA.

#7 A Star Wars in Open World (Massive / Ubisoft)

Ubisoft Massive, the studio behind the looter shooter The Division and its sequel, is leading the development of a new open-world Star Wars game. According to Massive and Ubisoft, this upcoming and currently untitled game will represent something unlike anything the studio has done before. For now, no release date has been announced.

In any case, the next few years promise to be a good omen for fans of the franchise.
