Moon Knight: the director of the series criticizes this choice of the next Black Adam film

A few weeks ago, we shared this bad news with you following the decision of DC to push back the release date of their next feature films. Fans learned as the films The Flash and Aquaman 2 were postponed to next year, but also that black adamin which we find Dwayne Johnson in the title role and which was originally slated for release this summer, was pushed back to the end of this year. And precisely concerning the latter, a director of a next concurrent series has recently critical some of the choices made by the DC movie.

the importance of origins for the series

Many superhero fans are eagerly awaiting the next Marvel Studios series Moon Knight, which will be available from next week on Disney+. This series will then be the opportunity to discover a new character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), aiming to introduce a whole new plot based on a much darker character than what fans have seen so far in the MCU. And the fact is Moon Knight shares common ground with the upcoming DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie.

Indeed, just like Black Adam, Moon Knight is firmly rooted in the culture of Egyptian mythology. But if the series refers to Konshu, the Egyptian deity associated with the Moon, it does not stop there.. The series wanted to appeal to many Egyptian talents, both in front of the camera and in the production team of the series.

This is why one of the directors of the series, Mohamed Diabtook to a recent interview to say how annoyed he was with the black adam of the DCEU, by criticizing their choice to follow the fictional roots of the comics at the expense of a real place. In a statement for the site FilFanthe filmmaker said:

I was very annoyed with DC when they placed black adam in a fictional Middle Eastern country as an excuse to cast non-Egyptian actors, when the film was obviously supposed to be set in Egypt. Representation opportunities should not be wasted. […] But that’s not a total mistake since the movie is based on an iteration of the comics that doesn’t mention Egypt.

I wanted to showcase Egyptian talent as much as possible. Each culture must be represented by its people, so I hired actors, an editor, a costume designer, an artistic director and a composer who are all Egyptian.

an adaptation faithful to the comics?

Moreover, the director of Moon Knight has apparently confirmed that Marc Spector, the protagonist of the series who will be played by actor Oscar Isaac, will be Jewish in the Disney + series. On Twitter, Diab saw many questions regarding the series and decided to answer them.. When a fan asked if Isaac’s character would share the Jewish heritage of the comic book version, the director replied:

Wait until the end of the show,
You’ll be pleased.

March 19, 2022

Wait until the end, you will be happy.

This will be good news for diehard fans then, though Diab didn’t specify which specific scenes will be included. Almost a week away from its release, many fans are eagerly awaiting the series. Moon Knight, looking forward to a much darker story than what the MCU usually offers. Let’s hope that the result will live up to the enthusiasm that the series arouses.
