Since August 2012, NASA’s Curiosity rover has been traveling the vast expanses of the planet Mars to unlock its secrets. A mission launched by the American space agency which allows astronomers, as well as space enthusiasts, to discover more about this planet located approximately 60 million kilometers from Earth. However, the rover recently shared a new image with us in which a “door” intrigues Internet users.
a “door” discovered on mars?
Regularly, the Curiosity rover shares its pictures with us. For nearly a decade, the American rover has been immortalizing Mars from all possible and unimaginable angles, an opportunity for NASA to survey the region and above all to send us this piece of land so far away. This week, an image posted by the magazine’s Twitter account Sky and Space made people talk. And for good reason, there is a “door” carved into the rock.

But as the magazine specializing in space and its cosmic phenomena quickly explains, this door, although intriguing, is undoubtedly not of extraterrestrial origin, but would have been caused by “landslides following fractures in the rock“. A snapshot immortalized by Curiosity’s Mastcam on Sol 3466.

Of course, on Earth, too, many rock formations appear to be of extraterrestrial origin. Goblin Valley State Park in the United States, Richat structure, aka “the eye of Africa” in Mauritania, or the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, no need to take the next SpaceX shuttle to land eyes on rock formations that seem to come from elsewhere.
