Today, new technologies are effectively multiplying the uses of bank cards… Which offer fraudsters new opportunities for hacking. Discover in this article our advice to protect yourself.

Contactless payment appeals but beware of fraud

Contactless payment is appealing. Now, nearly 30% of purchases under €20 are actually paid in this way. Without risk ? A criminal can in principle suck the data from your card within a radius of a few meters. But on condition of being equipped with a rather sophisticated material!

In fact, in this case the risk is quite low. Especially since without the cryptogram, the fraudster will not be able to carry out any online transaction. Moreover, some pirate applications would allow you to do the same with a simple smartphone, but this time on condition that you bring it within 1 cm of your card.
The parade: Store your bank card in an anti-radiation case, to buy on the net or to ask your bank.

Bank card: at the ATMs, be careful

Some fraudsters trap unprotected ATMs, as well as automated gas stations. This by installing a second card reader on that of the machine, to record information at the time of the transaction. Also a camera which allows to recover the secret code of the user.
The parade: Check the installation of the service station. And hide your hand by typing your code. Give preference to distributors installed in secure airlocks, where the risk is lower.

Bank card: payment with an electronic wallet

Bank card: like nearly 10 million French people, you make online purchases via Paylib or Paypal… These secure digital wallets, but not infallible!

Indeed, when paying, and in order to recover your data … certain viruses therefore divert you to a site imitating that of your online, banking wallet. And sometimes, it is the server of the merchant site that is the victim of a large-scale hack.

The parade: always check the address displayed in your browser before validating a transaction on a digital wallet. If it does not correspond to the usual address, immediately suspend your purchase. And start again from the real Paypal or Paylib site by typing this time its address manually.

Fraudulent emails to steal your bank details

Bank card: phishing, or in French phishing, still claims so many victims. The principle ? A fraudulent e-mail usurping the identity of the Sécu, your bank, EDF or taxes warns you of a problem or announces a refund. A link redirects you to the procedure to follow in a few clicks… fatal to your bank details.

The parade: Never open the mail. As a reminder, no public service, operator or energy supplier can ask you to provide your sensitive data by means of an email.

Credit card theft: choose payment by 3D Secure system

You notice one or more remote purchases on your account that you have never made… Your bank card is in your possession. So someone intercepted your data. Either on your computer or your smartphone by spyware, or at a cyber-merchant who has had his customer database hacked.

The parade: Prefer sites that require payment by 3D Secure system. Also, you can ask your bank for an e-bank card which generates single-use codes for each transaction.
