Warcraft GO: very bad news for Blizzard's Pokémon GO

Last February, Activision Blizzard announced the upcoming arrival of aall new mobile Warcraft content. A mobile game to be announced this Tuesday, April 3, 2022, in the early evening. But shortly before Blizzard’s announcement, a Windows Central journalist shares new information that will not please players who are waiting for a possible Warcraft GO.

nasty surprise for Warcraft fans

With Pokemon GO, Niantic and The Pokémon Company have changed the way players play. Shortly before the Earth was confined, millions of players were constantly wandering outside in search of Pokémon. A now cult title that popularized a new genre, which many studios obviously wanted to copy. And in 2018, the Kotaku site shared the development of a game Warcraft way Pokemon GO.

A Warcraft GO who was talked about again last February, on the occasion of the financial results of the fourth quarter of 2021 of Activision Blizzard. The American publisher dwelt on the various franchises of Blizzard, before revealing the arrival, this year, of a mobile game Warcraft :

  • Within the Warcraft franchise, World of Warcraft reach and engagement in the fourth quarter continued to benefit from the combination of Modern and Classic gameplay under one subscription. In 2021, World of Warcraft saw its strongest engagement and net bookings outside of a year of modern gaming expansion in a decade. In the fourth quarter, Hearthstone’s net bookings increased year over year, driven by a steady cadence of new content.
  • Blizzard is planning major new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022, including new experiences in World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, and making all new mobile Warcraft content available for the first time.
  • In the Diablo franchise, Diablo II: Resurrected sold more units between its September release and the end of the year than any other Activision Blizzard remaster over an equivalent period. On mobile, Diablo Immortal has completed public testing with positive feedback.
  • Blizzard is moving strongly through its pipeline, with new experiences in Warcraft, continued development in Diablo and Overwatch, and exciting new IP.”

Logically, this mobile game could therefore be the mobile game project Pokemon GO in the universe of Warcraft. Only, a speech by journalist Jez Corden, from Windows Central, on Twitter, could well tear the smile of the most impatient players. And for good reason, according to him, this project would have been canceled “sometime ago“.

For those DM’ing me about the Warcraft mobile games, I believe the Pokemon Go-like Warcraft game was actually canceled a while ago.

The one being announced next week is not Pokemon Go-like at all, but sounds like it’ll be pretty great from what I’ve heard.

“For those contacting me via DM about Warcraft mobile games, I believe the Warcraft Pokemon Go-like game was canceled a while back.

The one to be announced next week isn’t a Pokemon Go-like at all, but it looks like it’ll be pretty awesome from what I’ve heard.”

A canceled project which should not be announced this evening. Nevertheless, although Corden did not reveal the identity of this mobile gamehe reacted positively when a tweeter suggested that Blizzard’s announcement could concern a mobile game Clash of clans. Supercell’s hugely popular game released in 2012 is one of the most popular games around, it’s no wonder Blizzard wants to take inspiration from it as it should.
