Unreal Engine 5: Internet users are struggling to realize that this video is not real (15 tweets)

With its Unreal Engine 5, Epic intends to drastically increase its presence in the world of video games. A game engine accessible to everyone that has already won over many studios, starting with CD Projekt Red for its next game The Witcher. And recently, a video surprised internet users, who couldn’t figure out if the images were real or not.

the future of video games is underway

Recently, 3D artist Lorenzo Drago created a sequence in which the Etchū-Daimon station in Japan is found. A sequence created under Unreal Engine 5 enhanced by Lumen lighting, when “all modeling, texturing, lighting and animation” of the clip were made by the artist, with the exception of the foliage. A decoration built by his care which seems absolutely real. The steps, walls, lights, cables, and even some textures were made by hand or from photos.

For this project, I wanted to get as close as possible to photorealism.“, explains Draco.”I used camera matching to achieve precise proportions and made careful use of references. I adjusted the measurements afterwards to promote modularity. Apart from detail textures and alphas created from photographs, I created all textures from scratch in Painter and made custom materials in Unreal to use with vertex painting or masks for break the repetition.”

A video to discover just below which required about a month of work and which raised questions among many Internet users. Images taken from real life? A 3D creation?

It looks real, even CG movies can be seen by eye at 100%, but with all the videos, I didn’t even realize it was animation.

The daylight effects are remarkable. Literally can’t tell that it isn’t real. Night time still looks phenomenal but I can still get a hint that it isn’t quite right. But god damn it’s scary how good it is!

If it wouldn’t have gone from day to night at the beginning, I’d have called bs

May 9, 2022

If it hadn’t turned from day to night at first, I would have said it was wrong.

I can tell it’s not real life cause there’s not a single person in sight during the day, or a train passing, or one of the cute jingles that plays at stations/in trains.

May 9, 2022

I can tell this isn’t real life because there isn’t a single person in sight during the day, or a passing train, or one of those cute jingles that pass at stations/trains .

If you are trying to tell me this isn’t a real life video, I don’t have the brain capacity to believe you.
