The fans of Lord of the Rings impatiently waiting for September 2 to discover the series on Amazon The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The series will tell the entire story of the Second Age of Middle-earth from the fall of the Kingdom of Númenor to the rise of Sauron. For the occasion, the streaming platform has decided to introduce new characters, including that of Disa, Queen Dwarf.
A character specially created to tell the story of the Dwarves?
You may have noticed, neither in the original trilogy of the Lord of the Rings signed Peter Jackson, nor in the trilogy of Hobbita dwarf woman appears. Alone in The Two TowersGimli refers to it when he states: “It’s true that you don’t see many dwarf women… And this has given rise to the belief that there are no dwarf women and that dwarves come out of holes in the ground!“
But with the future series from Amazon, that will change! In effect, Rings of Power are going introduce the character of Disa, Dwarf queen of the Second Age who was created especially for the series. Incarnated by actress Sophia Nomvete, the series will tell us about her reign in Khazad-dûm and it will be an opportunity to highlight these characters who are almost absent from the work of JRR Tolkien.
By taking an interest in its history, the Amazon series could thus give us some answers as to why dwarves are rare in Middle-earth when Frodo Baggins holds the Ring. Indeed, this could be explained by the capture of Moria by Sauron’s allies and very slow reproduction rates. As a result, the dwarf population has drastically reduced.
Additionally, the Amazon series will allow fans to discover for the first time dwarf women in the world of Lord of the Rings and the presence of Disa in the show will offer us additional information on the history of Gimli and his congeners. For the time being, we do not yet know the narrative arc of Disa reserved by the showrunners. But it’s a safe bet that it brings us a setting for the history of Khazad-dûm/La Moria before the rise of Balin who will be played by Ken Scott and the halls fall into the hands of the goblins.
