In September 2022, the prequel series to the work of Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerwill finally be available on Prime Video. If it is extremely expected, as much to say that this expectation is particularly feverish and that the fans will not give a gift to Amazon, which must be irreproachable. One thing is certain, the studios were able to rest on a particularly rich work. Too much, maybe? The events that will be told to us will take place thousands of years before the events of the Hobbitsduring the Second Age. An era in which significant events have multiplied. If we doubt that a single season will be enough to return to all, here are the ones we would like to find at one time or another in the series!
#1 The foundation of the Gray Havens
In year 1 of the Second Age, Cirdan, a Moriquendi bearer of one of the three Elven rings, founded the Gray Havens (Mithlond). Located in Lindon, a territory that escaped the cataclysms of the War of the Great Wrath at the end of the First Age, it is from here that Elves set out to sail West, on their final journey to the Lands. Immortals. This foundation marking the beginning of the Second Age, difficult to avoid it in the series.
#2 The story of Númenor
The isle of Númenor was founded at the beginning of the Second Age and was offered to Men by the Valar as a reward for having allowed Morgoth to be defeated, the fallen Vala and hitherto master of Sauron, his chief lieutenant. Until it was submerged by the waters after the people joined Sauron’s camp thousands of years later, the Númenor played a central place, despite its geographical distance from Middle-earth.
#3 The Rise of Sauron
If he represents the great threat hanging over Middle-earth in the trilogy of Lord of the Ringsit was during the First Age that Sauron first appeared. But it is during the Second that his quest for power really begins. The maiar (a deity) settles in Mordor and gradually puts his plans in place. From the creation of the Rings of Power to his wars against Men and Elves, Sauron marks with his borrows the whole of the Second Age.
#4 The creation of the Rings of Power
How can we talk about the rise of Sauron, the Lord of the Rings himself, without mentioning the creation of the Rings? Among them is the One Ring forged by Sauron himself, these are actually at the center ofa gigantic trap extended by the man to the other races, which he seeks to control. We won’t go into more detail, since this is the whole point of the original trilogy: a Ring, created “to rule them all”.
#5 The War Between the Elves and Sauron
Once the One Ring is forged and threaded around his finger, Sauron can put his plan into action. He takes control of the bearers of the various rings and becomes more powerful than ever, racking up victories. Although he is finally narrowly defeated, it is from this moment that he can put his new plan in place, sending seven rings to Dwarves and nine to Men.
#6 Appearance of the Nazgûl
Men all succumb to the temptation of the rings and become the Nazgûl, the main servants of Sauron. Once kings and high lords, they are now Lord of the Rings’ Most Terrifying Servants and will even return during the Third Age to attempt to take the One Ring back from Frodo.
#7 Imladris Refuge Foundation
In 1697, Elrond founded the valley of Imladris, better known as Rivendell, in the Misty Mountains. The place serves as a refuge, after Eregion fell to the forces of Sauron and that the army of Eriador has been routed. It is also at this time that the Dwarves take refuge in the mines of Moria. During the journey of Frodo and his friends during the Third Age, the Elves are now well established there and welcome them during the Council of Elrond.
#8 The White Tree of Minas Tirith
In 1429, Sauron attacks Gondor, takes Minas Ithil and burns the White Tree, symbol of the city. But did you know that this tree originated in Númenor? Indeed, a similar sacred tree stood in his capital, Armenelos, and Isildur stole a fruit of it, while Sauron had forbidden anyone to approach it. One “feat which later brought him fame”, and which would later give birth to the White Tree of Minas Tirith, after Isildur replanted the fruit.
#9 The founding of the kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor
In 3320, during the exile of the Dunedain after the submersion of the island of Númenor, Elendil was lost at sea, landed on the coasts of Lindon. He then founded the Kingdom of Arnor. His two sons, Anàrion and Isildur, then founded Gondor. These kingdoms will later play a crucial role. Gondor, in particular, would ally with Rohan during the Third Age, leading to the defeat of Sauron.
#10 War of the Last Alliance
Finally, it is impossible not to mention the War of the Last Alliance. When Sauron attacks Gondor and conquers the city of Minas Ithil, Isildur goes to seek help from his father. This one not having sufficient forces, he appeals to his friend the High-King of the Elves, leading to the signing of the military pact of the Last Alliance, in 3430. It is this alliance that will defeat Sauron, during a final battle that you can see in the prologue of the trilogy of Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson. An event that marks the end of the Second Age and which should therefore logically correspond to the end of the series of Rings of Power. We are therefore not ready to attend.
And you, what events in particular would you like to see in the Lord of the Rings Prime Video series? To wait until September, find out which character from the saga would be your best friend in real life!
