The Last of Us: this leak from the next HBO series raises questions from fans

Earlier in the year, we brought you this mysterious statement from Pedro Pascal regarding one of the key moments of the games, as the actor will play the character of Joel Miller in the next HBO series The Last of Usdirectly adapted from the famous video games studio eponyms Naughty Dog. And recently, the escape of a sequence of this new series has also aroused strong questions from fans on social media.

a leak that raises questions?

While at the beginning of the year, we learned the terrible news concerning the postponement of the release of the HBO series, originally planned for this year, the fans wait as best they can, looking everywhere for the slightest clue that can satisfy their curiosity. And although the filming is still in progress, small leaks appear from time to time on the internet, giving fans a taste of what to expect.

One such leak, which happened recently, pointed directly to a scene from the game, so it was easy to see what the intended purpose was. But another leak, which happened this weekleft fans wondering about the world-building that might take place on the show.

The scene in question can be seen below courtesy of TheLastofUsTV, a Twitter account dedicated to such leaks and all things HBO series. The Twitter account then re-shared a video from a TikTok account called hbosthelastofus. The scene filmed in Calgary, in the Canadian province of Alberta, shows a convoy of vehicles surrounded by a crowd who seems to be chanting “freedom”, showing some animosity towards the Federal Agency for Disaster Responsea faction in The Last of Us better known as FEDRA.

Given the organized nature of the group and their apparent hostility towards FEDRA, one would suspect that the group in question is none other than the Hunters, an antagonistic faction from the first game primarily located in Pittsburgh. Joel and Ellie encounter the group on their journey, in a memorable scene where the group tries to trick the duo into feigning injury for Joel to stop.

The problem, it’s that by the time Joel and Ellie meet this faction, they’ve already kicked FEDRA out of town and taken control of it for several years. The series is set to take place during the duo’s time, so there’s no reason for people to actively protest against an organization that shouldn’t be there anymore. Some fans then suggested it was probably a flashback showing what happened in Pittsburgh. The city was indeed one of the quarantine zones run by the FEDRA, before the inhabitants of the city rose up against the soldiers, who would later become the Hunters.

Others have suggested this scene might depict a different version of Pittsburgh. that Joel and Ellie will encounter, a version where the Hunters’ control over the city is not quite established and the area would still be shared by different rival factions. If it is the latter case that occurs here, it would be a noticeable change from the video game.
