The comics The Boys have always been a parody of Marvel and DC comics. The characters Butcher faces are constant pastiches of the greatest superheroes in the Marvel and DC Comics universes. The role of Butcher, the character played by Karl Urban in the eponymous series, is to disable as many supers as possible. And most of his enemies don’t shy away from Butcher’s methods for long. The proof with Tek Knight, the version of Iron Man in The Boys.
The Boys: a cult comic book series
In 2006, the screenwriter Garth Ennis decides to offer comic book readers an alternative history to the slick narratives of Marvel and DC. Its goal is to create superheroes freed from all morality and all constraints to make them super-powerful beings above the law. So he imagines The Boys, a series of comics that presents superheroes in a new light. These latter are no longer heroes in the service of the peoplebut capricious, selfish stars, who use their prerogatives for personal and often very unhealthy purposes.
Garth Ennis writes 80 numbers of The Boys. The comic book series is quickly becoming cult with readers for its novel and inventive approach. The Boys allows readers to see something other than the repetitive stories from Marvel Comics and DC Comics. Darker, more violent, more mature and above all much more sexual, The Boys is not to be put in just any hand.
Faced with the success of comics, Amazon Prime Video has produced a live-action series directed by Eric Kripke. Worn by Karl Urban, Antony Starr and Jack Quaid, this series has met with enormous success with the public. Two seasons have already seen the light of day, and a third arrives next June on the platform.
Who is Tek Knight?
Through the comics The BoysGarth Ennis had fun proposing more or less subtle parodies and caricatures of the greatest heroes of the Marvel and DC stables. The Protector is obviously a pastiche of Superman, The Deep is a caricature of Aquaman, and A-Train is a parody of Flash. But the character that interests us today is a little less famous. This is Tek Knight. The latter is a founding member of Payback, and remains one of the few supers in the universe of The Boys to have no power, preferring to rely on ultra-developed technology than on component V.
But like all the supers of The Boys, Tek Knight has developed some psychological issueswhich lead him to have uncontrollable sexual relations with any living creature, see any inanimate object.
How Butcher takes on Tek Knight in The Boys?
In the comics, Butcher goes after Tek Knight to gather information. But this parody of Iron Man is obviously difficult to approach, since he is constantly protected by virtually indestructible armor. However, in The Boys #9Butcher’s team and the CIA investigate the murder of the super SwingWing. Their investigation leads them to suspect Tek Knight.. Butcher’s team decides to pay him a little visit. However, when Tek Knight begins to become threatening towards Butcher, the latter decides to send him his secret weapon: Kimiko.
Played by Karen Fukuhara in the series, Kimiko is an extremely powerful woman, who, above all, is not afraid of anything. While she possesses superhuman strength and regenerative powers, she makes short work of Tek Knight. Kimiko destroys his armor at breakneck speed and seriously injures him. Tek Knight has no choice but to reveal everything he knows to Butcher. In the comics, Butcher often uses Kimiko to do his chores. The latter remains to be an extremely effective weapon against the supers and the enemies of the Boys. In the comics, Tek Knight ended his run in an unorthodox fashion. He dies after a bad fall from a wheelbarrow he was trying to have sex with. His autopsy revealed that Tek Knight had a large brain tumor, explaining his bizarrely evil behavior. Season 3 of The Boys is expected on June 3 on Amazon Prime Video.
