If he didn’t hit as hard as Spider-Man: No Way Home at the box office, The Batman nevertheless remains a big success, especially critically. Because if we discover a new vision of the Dark Knight, the fans are still brushed in the direction of the hair thanks to the appearance of several cult characters of Gotham City. But one iconic villain in particular hadn’t shown up…at least until then.
The Batman and its cast of five-star characters
A duration of nearly three hours, a Batman played by Robert Pattinson darker and more violent than ever, a scenario more focused on the investigation than on excessive action scenes… The ninth iteration of Batman in theaters took risks by offering a refreshing version of the Dark Knight and his universe. Director Matt Reeves did not hesitate to change the image we had of cult characters such as Catwoman, the Riddler, the Penguin, or the mobster Carmine Falcone.
But if one villain in particular has conspicuously been absent, it’s the Joker, Gotham’s most iconic masked vigilante foe, of which we only discover the laughter in The Batman. However, it is a safe bet that he will have a very important role to play later. To make us wait until then, Warner unveiled a deleted scene in which he appears facing the camera the time of an interrogation.
A scene too “fan-service”, but a promising Joker
This deleted scene, Matt Reeves had already teased her some time ago and had announced that it would probably be made public at some point. Well, it only took a little over three weeks to find out! The director also explained that he removed the said scene so as not to weigh down the film, already three hours long and rich in known characters from the Batman universe, with a scene that serves as a bit of “fan-service”. A choice that we understand once these five minutes discoveries which, if they allow to finally put a face on the Joker, weren’t essential to the story.
We discover Pattinson’s Batman interrogating his sworn enemy in prison in order to help him find the Riddler. After being portrayed by Heath Ledger (the Batman of Nolan), Jared Leto (Suicide Squad) or more recently Joaquin Phoenix (Joker), it is the Irish actor Barry Keoghan, who has already appeared in The Eternals, who lends him his features.
Interestingly, this time, we understand that Batman and the Joker already know each other, since the latter talks about their past confrontation. Suffice to say that when he succeeds in escaping Arkham, the Joker will most likely seek revenge. Neverthelessno information has been released about a potential appearance of the Joker in another related project at The Batman. We let you discover the scene in question:
But since the Penguin will have the right to its own series, why wouldn’t he have the right to his own as well? After all, he is the Dark Knight’s most well-known antagonist.
Let us also remember thata series on Arkham Asylum should also see the light of day, which will probably be an opportunity to put more than a face and a laugh on the character of Barry Keoghan.
