Telecommuting is proving to be more complicated to live with than we imagined. Not everyone has the space to equip a real office at home. Indeed, to work in complete serenity, Stéphanie Gelbart, specialist in Chinese thought and Feng Shui master, takes stock of the mistakes not to make. Read the guide!

Mistake n°1 telecommuting: working in nomadic mode everywhere

Telecommuting: some settle on a corner of the table in the kitchen for a videoconference. Or look at their e-mails in bed and slump on the sofa to work on a file… Wrong!

“The 1st important thing is to be set up, well positioned in a dedicated place. If only in its seat, it is essential to settle down comfortably. Even if you work on a kitchen chair, I recommend putting a small cushion in the back at the level of the kidneys and stalling your spine to stand straight when you are at your task. Avoid working on a stool, it can scatter you. Telecommuting disconnects us from reality. To remedy this, anchoring is very important. To reconnect to the earth, you also have to secure your feet. If necessary, take a stack of books, an overturned crate. » Advise Stéphanie Gelbart.

Mistake n°2: forgetting your perspectives of time and space

In fact, outside the existing framework in your workplace… You can notably lose the notion of time and space. “In telework, we can remain locked into operating systems where the notion of evolution, efficiency and perspective is diminished. It is important to have perspective. Concretely, what is the goal that I want to achieve, for today but also in absolute terms”. Says the specialist.

Mistake n°3: avoid mixing professional and personal spaces

Indeed, whatever the size of your living space… You have to delimit the work space and the living space. “If I have laundry to fold on the table and I’m working nearby, before I start, I put the laundry out of my sight. Otherwise it will capture my mind on something unfinished. Likewise, when I’ve finished my work, I put my computer away in a suitcase or a crate to move on to something else.” Explains the expert.

Similarly, if, for example, you have a desk in the bedroom, you must therefore try to delimit the work space from the night space. “You can do this by putting a rug on the floor around the desk, which allows you to create two zones in the space or even a screen. The ideal is to close your files and go to bed with as little visibility as possible on your workspace. Adds Stéphanie Gelbart.

Mistake n ° 4 teleworking: hiding your interior

Telecommuting: it is not always easy to take charge of your home during videoconferences. Whether luxurious or in shambles, we often prefer a blurred or even whimsical background.

Stéphanie Gelbart, a specialist in Chinese thought, says: “People who hold video meetings have more to gain from showing their interior and assuming the site they occupy rather than putting a background image or a blur. It’s much more real and it can create a bond with others. It is also an invitation to choose the angle and the perspective that we allow others to see. »
