Spider-Man No Way Home: this nod to Iron Man that you probably missed

A few weeks ago, we presented this deleted scene from the film Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which we find Charlie Cox, the actor who plays Daredevil, alongside Jon Favreau. And recently, fans discovered another reference in the latest movie marvel studiosthus making a wink to one of the most emblematic stages of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (mcu).

a hidden wink

One of the most anticipated films of the past year, Spider-Man: No Way Home was a real success at the global box office, with many fans eagerly awaiting the unprecedented reunion of the actors who played the Marvel superhero, namely Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. But the Marvel Studios movie not only called on older iterations of the character, but also made a number of references to MCU history.evidenced by this recent discovery.

Over the years, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has forged many ties with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. The MCU’s Peter Parker costume was notably designed by Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming. He also felt the terrible loss of the armored superhero in Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. So it only made sense that the last film No Way Home do also some references to the protagonist’s late mentor.

As reported comic book, a rather observant fan noticed an interesting moment that most will probably have missed in Spider-Man: No Way Home. At a key moment in the film, J. Jonah Jameson, played by JK Simmons, can be seen filming an episode of The Daily Bugle, and in the background, a pile of old newspaper clippings can be seen on his Wall. One of the old journals has a headline that says “Tony Stark is Iron Man”, winking to the ending scene of the first MCU film, Iron Man (2008), in which Stark reveals to the world that he is Iron Man during a press conference.

This suggests that Jameson isn’t just an expert on all things Spider-Man, but has an interest in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. In any case, fans around the world are surely eagerly awaiting the continuation of the adventures of this character. Actor JK Simmons recently opened up about J. Jonah Jameson returning in upcoming movies Spiderman with Tom Holland, and then declared in an interview with variety :

I think I will be in other films. So let’s cross our fingers. A total shock really, at the start, because I said to myself that we had done the Sam Raimi trilogy, it was brilliant, it was brilliant, it was wonderful. And then they moved on. […] And here I am back. And Sam is also back in the Marvel Universe with Doctor Strange. That’s wonderful.

While the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home should be released on VOD very soon, it will also be available on April 12 on DVD and Blu-raywhich will allow the most fervent fans to scrutinize the Marvel Studios film in its smallest details but also to discover the bonus scenes, and perhaps find other little winks that we would have missed.
