Thank you to all the fans around the world who hugged their panda and made the latest Disney Pixar movie Red Alert the best start on Disney+ worldwide.

A film much more touching than the previous ones?

Such a success for Red alert can be explained by several way. First of all, the film was the target of heavy criticism and a Streisand effect when Pixar accused Disney of censorship and homophobia preventing it from writing and featuring openly gay characters, sparking sudden interest in the film. Then it is thatit is for the first time a film aimed at young girls and having as its direct theme the relationship of young girls to their own body and its development during adolescence. According to director Domee Shi and the producer Lindsey Collinsit was already in their plans when the film was imagined:

The red panda is a metaphor not only for puberty, but also for what we inherit from our mothers and how we deal with what we inherit from them. All these changes occur not only in his body, but also in his relationship with his mother and his friends.-Domee Shi

“It was always in all the early versions of the movie. It was the first thing we put into production. Everyone on the team was supportive of us having real conversations about the rules and about those moments sometimes difficult for young girls. It had to be something gritty, but also funny, to normalize the subject and that it could speak to everyone.” -Lindsey Collins

On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts a magnificent 95% appreciation. According to some parents who have seen the film with their children -mostly girls-, they were delighted to see the topics covered such as hormones, adolescence, anger management or the strong points about family, friendship and having to let our emotions speak instead of containing everything inside. Even if children may find it difficult to understand or be upset by the mother-daughter relationship.
