PlayStation Plus: Sony implements this surprising security to prevent you from saving money

Next June the redesign of PlayStation Plus is to be launched. Originally known as Project Spartacus, this new service is none other than the merger of the current PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now, all sprinkled with a few new features. And as its launch draws nearer, it looks like Sony has implemented some surprising security preventing gamers from saving money.

a redesign of the playstation more in approach

At the end of March, Sony finally lifted the veil on its Project Spartacus, an overhaul of its services on PlayStation presented as a merger of PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now. Three offers are advanced, soberly baptized Essentials, Extra and Premium. The first looks like PlayStation Plus, the second adds to the carpet a library of 400 PS4 and PS5 titles (available for download) which should come to expand over the months when the third, and also the most expensive, will contain the same advantages as the previous ones by adding the possibility of stream PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP (and also PS4 and PS5) games, as well as access to exclusive, time-limited demos.

And recently, echoes shared by the Game Developer site explained that Sony would provide demos for all games displayed at more than 34 euros. Demos that would ultimately be the responsibility of Sony, which would produce them internally. An attractive Premium offer that many players have tried to obtain at a lower cost. In the FAQ section of the service, it is specified that:

“If you subscribe to both services [PS Now, PS Plus] when the new PlayStation Plus launches, you will be migrated to the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription plan and you will have a new single payment date based on the longer of your two subscriptions.

Thus, a user with a PlayStation Plus subscription ending at the end of the year and a PlayStation Now subscription ending in 2025, its Premium offer will expire with the furthest subscription, namely the one that ends in 2025. Faced with this solution, many interested parties have tried the experiment by accumulating years of subscription to take advantage of an offer at a minimal price. A technique quickly blocked by Sony, which seems to have subsequent repercussions.

a technique prohibited by sony

And for good reason, players wishing to extend their subscription via prepaid cards now find themselves in the water. On Twitter, several Internet users tried to hail PlayStation in search of an answer, after the purchase of a PlayStation Plus prepaid card, the use of which is now prohibited by Sony. In effect, In a press release addressed to IGN, Sony explains that it has temporarily disabled the possibility of redeeming PS Plus codes purchased from online retailers.

“Hey SONY WTF why are you denying my PS Now gift card? It’s a dodgy thing you set up, it recognizes it but says it can’t be activated at the moment.. So I can’t not use the gift card I paid for until JUNE? You are kidding me, fix the problem

My proof by the way

Correct your services! If you’re going to shut down PS Plus then you should have done it closer to June and/or not let big retailers like Amazon sell your gift cards. I just wasted $60 that I can’t use I’m pissed”

@PlayStation Are there issues activating PS Plus as i’ve just purchased a 12 month Code and it is saying, The prepaid card could not be redeemed. Please try again later. The code appears to be valid?

“Are there any problems activating PlayStation Plus? I just purchased a 12 month code and the following message appears: ‘The prepaid card could not be used. Please try again later. The code seems to be valid though?

In the case of the internet user known as Shiroubrando, Sony support has been contacted but no response has been received at this time. Hard to believe that the Japanese giant will fully reimburse the unfortunate. Towards a future activation for an activation of the PlayStation Plus Essentials offer? Possible. But until then, it is not recommended to buy a PlayStation Plus prepaid card.
