Lately, the news around One Piece is particularly rich. Between the narrative arc of the manga which comes to a turning point, the film One Piece: RED scheduled for this summer and Netflix’s live-action series which continues to reveal its cast, fans of Eiichiro Oda’s work have plenty to do. And that’s good, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this cult work, a new game is announced: One Piece Odyssey.

Born in 1997, One Piece quickly became a real phenomenon. This pillar of Japanese manga is now found adapted almost everywhere, difficult to find an area that has not yet been able to accommodate the straw hat and his crew. And in 2022, One Piece celebrates its 25th anniversary. A quarter of a century therefore for this work which has also distinguished itself in video games. About forty games in total, most of which have not left the Japanese archipelago. But faced with this monument, now acclaimed all over the world, it is difficult to resist the urge not to sell it to the four corners of the globe.
And that’s what Bandai Namco intends to do with One Piece Odyssey, a “brand new RPG with turn-based combat in the One Piece universe“. On the menu: an original story and new characters drawn by Eiichiro Oda. This new game will benefit from the presence of the original Japanese voices of the actors and is intended to be developed by the ILCA Inc. studio (already found behind the criticized versions Sparkling Diamond and Sparkling Pearl of Pokemon). One Piece Odyssey will be available in 2022 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
In One Piece Odysseyplayers will take on the role of Monkey D. Luffy who finds himself and his crew engulfed in a massive storm at sea before landing”on a mysterious windswept island with lush vegetation“. Problem: the whole small group is separated and the Thousand Sunny is in pieces. The crew therefore finds itself immersed “in the midst of a raging nature, powerful enemies and strange encounters with the inhabitants of the island“.
