Last month, we revealed to you how the next star wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi was finally going to fill this “lack” of the original trilogy, thanks to the return of the legendary composer John Williams in the franchise. Since the creation of the Star Wars universe in 1977, the music of the Stormtroopers has come from The Imperial March of John Williams, used for many facets of Empire. But in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Natalie Holt, composer of the series, has revealed that she wrote a “Stormtroopers theme” for the next Disney+ seriesadding that she could not say more at this time.
Holt talked about her excitement working on the show, especially because she’s a “huge John Williams fan.” As a reminder, the latter composed the music for the nine Star Wars films that take place within the framework of the Skywalker saga.. If, due to his advanced age, Williams retired from the composition of recent Star Wars projects, he still wanted to return once more to the franchise for give Obi-Wan Kenobi his main theme.
But aside from Williams’ theme, the rest of the series was composed by Holtthe Stormtroopers theme then resulting from the “many different characters in the series”. Obi-Wan Kenobi will pick up years after the events of the film Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005), where we will find the Jedi Master, played by Ewan McGregor, who watches over the young Luke Skywalker while remaining hidden on Tatooine.
The official trailers for the series then revealed to us that Obi-Wan will not only be confronted by the Stormtroopers, but also to the Inquisitors who hunt the Jedi, as well as Darth Vaderaka Anakin Skywalker, his former padawan and friend, marking the great return of Hayden Christensen in the franchise.
Holt has previously worked on the series Loki available on Disney+, and she explained how playing Kenobi was different from her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU):
[Loki] was more comical at times, but it was also a crazy trip through time and space. I was using a lot of different color palettes that weren’t appropriate for Obi-Wan Kenobi because the tone is more serious.
It remains to be seen how serious the new Star Wars series will be. Unlike series The Mandalorian and The Boba Fett Book, Obi-Wan Kenobi is the first live-action series set primarily during the height of the Empire’s power. This period has already been explored on television, such as in the animated series star wars rebelsand the upcoming Disney+ series will adapt some elements of Rebels, including a live-action version of The Grand Inquisitor.
