After’critical failure previous movies Venom, the Sony’s Spider-Man Universe runs March 30 with a brand new movie: Morbiuswith Jared Leto in the title role. The first press screenings had taken place this week and reviews are mixed at best, in the worst catastrophic. Morbius : worse movie than Venom ? Here’s what early viewers think.
Morbius : “a failed 2005 scenario”
Morbius is one of Marvel comics fan favorite anti-heroes. The character is dark, violent and powerful. Sony, upon beginning filming of Venom and with the rights to the Spider-Man character, said it wanted to create its own extended universe of films, named the Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) including Venomits sequel Venom: Let There be Carnage and now Morbius are the first elements. They will be followed later by Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web and Spider Woman. But if the opinions on the first two films with Tom Hardy are far from rave reviews, those on the next Morbius movie are abysmal average. Be careful though, the press does not yet have the right to give its opinion, it will be necessary to wait until Tuesday for the embargo to be lifted. Only influencers are authorized to speak publicly. Corn that didn’t stop the under wraps from happening on Twitter.
#Morbius proves that no matter how many famous faces or shiny visuals you squeeze in, Sony will always find a way to impressively misunderstand basic storytelling pic.twitter.com/Jxf8bPzi57

Morbius proves that no matter how many brilliant visuals you cram in, Sony will always manage to miss the basis of the storytelling
Heard from several journalists who’ve seen the film already (junket purposes) that it’s boring and uncalculated. No consistency, except that it’s bad. Good moment here and there, and 2-3 easter eggs, but otherwise, just watch it when it gets home. ud83dude2c #Morbius https://t.co/MC4ydbsUus

I heard from several journalists that the film was boring and incomplete, no consistency, except that it’s bad. Good times here and there, 2-3 easter eggs, but overall, see it at home (on SVOD or DVD)
This method normally allowsensure a wave of positive reviews since influencers do not have the same critical role as the press, but it is nevertheless a failure since the latter destroyed the film. And to make matters worse, it seems that many scenes and easter eggs from the trailers are not in the movie, like the one explaining the place of Morbius in the MCU, as well as any reference to Spider-Man, the Daily Buggle or even the actor Michael Keaton, yet still present in the credits. Many are indignant at this, arguing that it isa marketing trick to encourage MCU fans to come to theaters and take an interest in the film. Cherry on the manure: this poor Jared Leto who disappoints once again in the role of a character from Comics. Some comments even claim that he is both present in the worst DC movie (Suicide Squad) and Worst Marvel Movie (Morbius).
I saw #Morbius and it’s in the same vein as the first Venom, if not a little better. We see that Sony has found its recipe for its universe. Personally, I found that pretty cool.
PS: The post-credits scenes will be talked about a lot, I won’t say more pic.twitter.com/0a8MsiUW4w

Morbius: the spoilers already present
Surprisingly, a few days before the release of a film, director Daniel Espinosa promoted the film by revealing big plot partsand presenting the fact both that a Spider-Man would be present in the film and that he would be revealed later (in a sequel?) but also that Morbius takes place in the same universe as Venom, something which is not easily guessed and which has no interest in the plot of this one. Same the two post and mid credits scenes are “useless and too vague” as they reveal nothing.

We will have to wait for the release of the film to obviously get a constructive opinion. But since it’s a Marvel X Sony stamped movie, there’s a good chance that, like the previous Venoms, Morbius be a box office success despite what the critics say. It will, however, be interesting to see what Sony decides for the character in the future of its multiverse.
In #Morbius Matt Smith gloriously hams up the place and Oliver Wood delivers some visual flare to the action sequences.
Aside from that, the bad plotting & messy cgi, confusing editing & worse sound mix result in absolute incoherence
But the post-credits manage to out do it all pic.twitter.com/NZ878P90z4March 24, 2022
In Morbius, Matt Smith kindly occupies the space and the screen and Oliver Wood presents us with nice visual effects in the action scenes. Other than that, it’s bad. Bad script, bad special effects, confusing editing and the worst sound mix resulting in absolute inconsistency. But the post-credit scenes manage to do worse.
Well, #Morbius is about as bad as you were expecting. A 2005 plot collides with visually confusing CGI to create a bit of a snooze fest. But don’t worry, they’ve saved the worst for last. Featuring some of the worst post credits scenes you’ve EVER seen, Sony are off their rocker. pic.twitter.com/TMfVpq95Tn

Sony really needs to stop making superhero movies they don’t know how to do. #Morbius is a very bad movie. They even managed to cut scenes from Vulture… pic.twitter.com/yWPiXOfmjx
