The end of episode 4 of Moon Knight

After being shot in Ammit’s tomb by Arthur Harrow, Marc Spector wakes up in a mental hospital where, for several hours, he is led to believe that everything that happened in Moon Knight so far has taken place in his head only. Marc then tries to escape from the hospital and ends up in a room with an Egyptian sarcophagus. After opening the lid of the latter, he discovers one of his alternate personalities, Steven Grant, trapped inside. Together they start walking down the next hallway, and pass a room where is another sarcophaguswhich contains another entity that desperately wants out.

The episode finally ends with the appearance of an Egyptian goddess with the head of a hippopotamuswho greets Marc and Steven.

What do you think of this end of the episode?

If Steven Grant was trapped in the first sarcophagus, then it seems plausible to assume that the person trapped in the second sarcophagus is another one of Marc Spector’s alternate identities. If so, it wouldn’t be the first time series Moon Knight evokes the possibility that another person is active in the mind of Marc Spector. Remember, in episode 3, Marc takes control of the body and asks to Steven what he didbut Steven is just as lost, and thinks Marc is playing him.

Everything leads us to think that this very particular scene in a psychiatric hospital takes place in Steven and Marc’s “system” (that is, in the place common to their two minds), and that this scene is intended to show us how, in the future, both will be able to interact together (without necessarily going through ice or water, even if it serves the narration). And precisely, in addition to these two Quirks, there is a good chance that we will discover the personality of Jake Lockley in a future episode.

Who is Jake Lockley?

In the comics, Marc Spector’s main alternate identities are Steven Grant and Jake Lockley, which serve very different purposes. Steven, in the comics, is a millionaire whose status allows him to move in the world of the rich and powerful. Jake, on the other hand, is a taxi driver whose knowledge of the streets allows him to be aware of what is happening and maintain a number of important contacts. Series Moon Knight significantly altered the Steven Grant character, turning him into a clumsy museum employee rather than a confident wealthy man. And Jake Lockley he, too, may well be very different in the MCU.

The moment of confusion between Mark and Steven in episode 3 of Moon Knight thus suggests that their other alternate personality (namely definitely Jake) might be fine more brutal than they are (since the latter killed men with his bare hands). If Steven Grant is supposed to represent “the most honest Marc”, it is possible that Jake Lockley (or whoever his third identity is) is, on the contrary, the “worst Marc” in a way.

Conclusion

This theory is plausible, but why the “internal system” of the characters we would be present at this precise moment? It is possible that, in shock after receiving pistol bullets, Marc needs Steven but also of his third personality to save himself from this (very) bad patch. Moreover, if we dwell on the goddess with the head of a hippopotamus at the end of the series, we notice that this is the second time that we have seen her. The goddess Taweret indeed, the Egyptian goddess with the head of a hippopotamus, has already been presented to us in the form of stuffed animals that Steven was selling in episode 1.

For some fans, Layla could be (or become) the avatar of this goddess, who is the protective goddess of pregnant women and their offspring. With Wanda who now has two lost sons in the multiverse, connections could indeed be possible for the rest of the events. We will probably know the end of this story in two weeks at most, when the series Moon Knight will have delivered its final episode.
