It’s often that in comics, the violence and darkness of the characters is more developed than in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). We have another example with this cult clash in the comics, which we have never seen in the MCU. Indeed, in Avengers #23Ronan the Accuser confronts Black Dwarf, one of Thanos’ henchmen, in a fight of incredible violence.
Ronan the Accuser vs Black Dwarf
To my left is Ronan the Accuser. Created in 1967 by Sten Lee and Jack Kirby, he is certainly the most famous Kree in the entire Marvel universe. Often in charge of ruling this alien race, Ronan is a fearless and demanding ruler, who has almost no qualms. A regular Fantastic 4, Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers villain, he is an extremely powerful enemy. This famous antagonist appeared twice in the cinema, played by Lee Pace in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and in Captain Marvel.
To my right, Black Dwarf. Also called Cull Obsidian, he is a member of the Black Order, the team serving Thanos. Physically very powerful, he joins Thanos in his quest for the Infinity Stones. Alien whose race is undetermined, Black Dwarf first appeared in 2013 in New Avengers Vol. 3 #8. After having suffered a crushing defeat against Wakanda, Black Dwarf is then killed by Ronan on the Peak, the base of the SWORD, which Thanos had succeeded in conquering.

Thus, it is precisely this battle between Ronan and Black Dwarf that interests us here. In Avengers #23by Jonathan Hickman and Leinil Francis Yu, Thanos is once again trying to take over the universe in a soberly titled new story Infinity. An invasion that forces the greatest heroes, but also the greatest villains to team up to stop the Mad Titan. An alliance that pushes Ronan to join the ranks of the Avengers to face the powerful Thanos.
After defeating a team of avengers consisting of Black Widow, Shang-Chi and Manifold, Black Dwarf then finds himself facing a much more powerful team. The child of Thanos will indeed face a quartet of rare power composed of Ronan, a Super-Skrull, Annihilation and Gladiator. Suffice to say that Black Dwarf has generally no chance of coming out alive. Ultimately, it’s Ronan the Accuser who delivers the final blow to Black Dwarf with his mighty hammer. The Kree accuser then explodes his skull without further ado and puts an end to Black Dwarf’s short existence. The opportunity for Jonathan Hickman to present a wild and violent confrontation, like the comics have the secret.
