Marvel: Samuel L. Jackson tackles critics of MCU films

This is not new in Hollywood, since the appearance of Marvel films, it is the war between the studio which produces the MCU and the directors who have marked the history of American cinema. The latter did not hesitate to attack these blockbusters which are a hit at the global box office. Faced with these criticisms which come up regularly, Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in the Marvel movies, wanted to answer them without tweezers !

“Despising these films just because we are not going to see their films”

Indeed, you certainly remember the statements of Martin Scorsese or Francis Ford Coppola. The first believes that Marvel movies are not cinema and the second claimed that these productions are “redundant” and “without originality‘.

Faced with these repeated attacks on these superhero films, Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in the MCU, decided to speak out on these criticisms and the least we can say is that he does not hesitate to tackle. Guest on the show The View, the actor thinks a “movie is a movie. You have to live with the times. For him, marvel movies are the movies he was going to see when he was a kid. However, in 2022, “kids know how to make a movie with their phone“. And to add:

It’s easy for these directors to look down on those movies, just because people aren’t going to see their movies…”

For the 73-year-old American actor, this “war” between these two cinematographic genres has always existed. There have always been entertainment productions and more serious films. Marvel doesn’t make bad movies. And it’s denigrating the public who pay to see MCU films in theaters :

Seems like they say people like morons by these movies. It has always been like this. When I was younger, people went to see cowboy movies, and they went to see other kinds of superhero movies. When you made more serious films, it was for a niche audience.

For Samuel L. Jackson, the situation is always the same: the “people go to the cinema to feel better and get out of their daily lives“.

A cinema session is a real communion

And to continue that if people go to the cinema, whatever the film, it is for live a moment of communion :

It’s a hell of a time. You laugh together and shout together.

Finally, the actor explains that for him, his participation in a film is based on only one thing :

I always make films that I would have liked to see when I was a child.

In short, whatever the cinematographic style, cinema is made to bring people together. And nothing prevents to appreciate the productions of the MCU and those of a cinema which wants to be more elitist ! We can very well have a good time in front of Freedmen by Scorsese or The Godfather and have fun in front of an Avengers!

In the meantime, we will find Samuel L. Jackson, who will put on his Nick Fury costume again, in the next Disney+ series titled Secret Invasion.
