Thor will be back on July 13 in his fourth solo film, Thor: Love and Thunder. Still directed by Taika Waititi, the feature film will offer a new redesign of the character of Chris Hemsworth. The comedian will leave the skin of Fat Thor Avengers: Endgame to come back stronger than ever. A body change that leads us to ask ourselves this question: what happened to Thor between Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder ?
How long did it take between Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder?
Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Phase 4 Explores After Avengers: Endgame. Given that Avengers: Endgame takes place in 2023, new MCU movies are released in a timeline that is set slightly in the future from their release dates. Thor has undergone heavy transformations between the film of the Russo brothers and his fourth opus alone.
At the moment, it is not yet known exactly when the plot of Thor: Love and Thunder. But because Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings takes place in 2023-2024, that The Eternals takes place in the summer of 2024 and that Spider-Man: No Way Home is at the end of 2024, there is a good chance that Thor: Love and Thunder is also in the year 2024before the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness taking place in 2025.
A new transformation for Thor
The events ofAvengers: Infinity War have had heavy consequences on Thor. The God of Thunder fell into depression over his repeated helplessness against Thanos. He lived several reclusive years on the new Asgard before the Avengers came for him. A period during which the god of lightning gained a lot of weight until he had his own nickname: Fat Thor. This aspect of the character remained for the duration of Avengers: Endgamebut in view of the filming photos of Thor: Love and Thunderthe character has changed a lot physically.
Indeed, the Asgardian god took over impressive muscle mass. The god of thunder has never been so muscular as in the first images of Thor: Love and Thunder. For the moment, it is difficult to know if Fat Thor will be in the film and that the spectators will see the new evolution of the character or if they will find him directly in this Olympic form. Logically, it is during this period between Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder that Thor has drastically regained his physical condition.
We know, at the end of Avengers: Endgamethat Thor joins the Guardians of the Galaxy team. It remains to be seen whether the character will be a full member of this team or not. Logically, the god of thunder will participate in several missions alongside the guardians. But another theory has recently emerged, suggesting that Thor might have joined the Ravagers during this time. A hypothesis which is based in particular on the availability of a figurine from the film which depicts a Thor Ravager. The toy wears the same tee as Chris Hemsworth in the very first photo from the film shared by Taika Waititi in 2021 (above). Logically, Thor will therefore join the Ravagers at some point, perhaps in the period between Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Either way, Taika Waititi is most likely going to tell us what happened to Thor all this time. He will also introduce us to the new iteration of the character, his new state of mind, his new goals, and his brand new physical condition. See you next July 13.
