Marvel: after the murder of Doctor Strange, Death also has its own Supreme Sorcerer

Last month, we introduced you to this new Sorcerer Supreme, far too gory to be seen one day in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (mcu), the opportunity for fans to discover the character of Cleasuccessor to the famous Master of Mystical Arts, Doctor Strange. And recently, fans of marvel comics were able to see that while Clea was formidable as a Supreme Witchthere are other characters who could match her, including one in particular who would be her dark counterpart.

DISCLAIMER: This article contains spoilers for Strange #2 comics, if you’re going to read it, look no further.

the new supreme witch

If fans had already known several characters who have carried the title of Sorcerer Supreme, like the famous Stephen Strange (aka Doctor Strange), or more recently Clea, it turns out that even Death would have its own version of the Sorcerer Supreme. . The recent death of Doctor Strange has left a great void in the Marvel Comics Universe, a void filled by Cleafrom the Dark Dimension and former companion of the late Master of the Mystical Arts.

As reminded ScreenRantin last year’s issue of the comics Death of Doctor Strange, fans found out someone had murdered the Sorcerer Supreme. A magical clone of Strange, created when he was younger, had been tasked with solving the murder. Kaecilius, a notorious enemy of Doctor Strange, was the instigator, and was eliminated. But Strange’s passing meant Earth needed a new Sorcerer Supreme.and it was therefore Clea who took over, assuming the role and then settling in the Strange Manor, or Sanctum Sanctorum of its real name, located in New York.

Clea proved to be a far more unstable and ruthless Sorceress Supreme than her predecessor. But even though Strange is dead, she swore to bring him back somehow, thus leading to a confrontation with the Harvestman, the dark opposite of the Sorcerer Supreme. Because Death seems to have other ideas in mind.

In the recent comics Strange #2released at the beginning of the month and directed by Jed MacKay and Marcelo Ferreirareaders get to know the Harvestman, one of the agents of Death, established as the opposite of the Sorcerer Supreme. Clea finds the character fighting a zombie version of Thunderstrike. She then learns that it is not really Thunderstrike, but that the soul of her former comrade in arms has been “requisitioned by thousands of ghosts” who rebel against Death. Clea then realizes that Harvestman might be the key to resurrecting Doctor Strange.

Although Death’s emissary tells him it’s impossible, Clea doesn’t seem to accept this answer. The two characters will manage to overcome this zombie Thunderstrike, and we find Clea shortly after discussing with Wong about Harvestman, back in the Strange Manor. After hearing of his great power, Wong suspects that Death has created “a counterpart to the Sorcerer Supreme”..

a challenge against death

Marvel comics have revealed over the years that other dimensions have their own Sorcerer Supremes.. Indeed, Clea herself is the Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension. It is therefore entirely possible that Death could create its own equivalent. Such a being would then go a long way towards enforcing the will of Death., including banning the resurrection of Doctor Strange. During an interview with comic book, MacKay brought some details about the opposition between the Sorcerer Supreme and Harvestman. He said:

Harvestman is Clea’s main antagonist in her quest to [ressusciter] stephen strange […], it is the dark reflection of the Sorcerer Supreme. Where Sorcerer Ultimate is life, magic and the beating heart of the world, Harvestman echoes death, shadows and sorrow.

With her status as the two-dimensional Sorceress Supreme, Clea might be the only one in the Marvel Universe capable of defeating the Harvestman, and thus defying Death itself. Whether Clea would really be right to defeat the Harvestman, however, remains to be seen, as death is such a staple in the Marvel Universe.. For now, Clea has made it clear that she has every intention of resurrecting Doctor Strange, at any cost, thus guaranteeing a new confrontation between her and Harvestman in the sequel of the comics. Weird.
