Harry Potter: this newly unveiled villain from Hogwarts Legacy will appeal to fans of the original saga

It has been known for a few years that a game taking place in the universe of Harry Potter, Hogwarts Legacy, is in development. Very little information and images had been revealed so far. But we now know much more, especially about the main antagonists who will face us. Among them, a character directly linked to the original saga of JK Rowling.

Hogwarts Legacy: a promising game and charismatic villains

If you are an avid fan of Harry Potter, fantastic worlds, or more simply video games, you are probably looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacythe next game from Avalanche Software, which recently unveiled a quarter of an hour of promising gameplay. If so, we understand you: despite the magical and particularly rich universe invented by JK Rowling, Harry Potter and the wizarding world have never had the right to video game adaptations truly worthy of the name.

Hogwarts Legacy could therefore be the game that all fans have been waiting for, since it will allow you to live your student life at Hogwarts like never before. But you will also have to fight for causes greater than your simple education, sincea Goblin revolt is raging. This will be led by a certain Rannrok, accompanied bya dangerous black mage with a very classy style of dress and a characteristic top hat: Victor Rookwood. This surname may mean something to you, since it is also that of a dangerous character who appeared in the original saga and who notably fought alongside Voldemort himself!

The Rookwoods, Death Eaters from father to son?

It is therefore a safe bet that Victor Rookwood is directly linked to the original saga created by JK Rowling. Indeed, the character’s surname is exactly the same as a certain Augustus Rookwood, that only the biggest fans among you should know. Indeed, this Augustus is only mentioned in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, before appearing at the end of the saga, in The order of the Phoenix (book and film), then only in the paper version of Deathly Hallows. Suffice to say that if you haven’t been paying attention, this character probably means nothing to you. So let’s go back to the man’s journey.

For simplicity, Augustus Rookwood is a Death Eater and therefore serves He-Who-Must-Not-Speak-The-Name. His mission was, until the 90s, to spy on behalf of the Dark Lord by reporting sensitive information to him. He was very well placed for this since he worked at the Ministry of Magic as a Unspeakable, a sort of secret agent of the Department of Mysteries. He is eventually arrested after Igor Karkaroff, the Durmstrang school’s headmaster and former Death Eater, reports him in order to be released. Augustus is therefore sent to Azkaban, from where he escapes during the mass escape of 1996. He then joins Voldemort and will participate in the great battle of Hogwarts at his side, where all will suffer a crushing defeat.

Hogwarts Legacy taking place more or less a century before the events that we have just mentioned, we can therefore legitimately think that Victor, one of the great villains of the game, was not the father, but the grandfather of Augustus. The Rookwoods therefore seem to be part of these families of black mages dedicated to doing evil. If this information were to be confirmed, it would again prove that the names of the characters are often important clues in the Harry Potter universe. Answer at the end of 2022!
