Highly anticipated by fans of Harry Potterthe video game Hogwarts Legacy is the first open-world of the license Wizarding World. Scheduled for 2022, the game developed by Avalanche Software and edited by Portkey Games and Warner Bros.. revealed itself with gameplay, during a special conference designed for the occasion.
A long awaited game
Definitely, 2022 is likely to be one hell of a year for Potterheads. Indeed, while the film will be released in April Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets (which got a new teaser today), we are also waiting for the release of the game Hogwarts Legacyavailable on Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Shifted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the controversies surrounding JK Rowling (who did not work on the project), the game continues to reveal itself with a slew of new images, unveiled by Sony during a State of Play built solely around the title published by Warner.
The game plunges us into a time that JK Rowling never mentionednor in the novels Harry Potternor in the movies Fantastic Beastsbecause the action takes place in 1800s England. You will embody and customize a fifth-year Hogwarts student, possessor of an ancient form of very powerful magic. In addition to taking the many courses offered by the school of witchcraft (courses in potion, spells, defense against the forces of evil, botany, etc.), you will help one of your teachers save Hogwarts from an evil that corrupts Magical Creaturesand this in a particularly explosive context, since rumbles the Goblin Rebellionwho have received the support of evil black mages…
A very complete open-world
The various magic courses that you will follow will obviously be of great help to you during the combat and exploration phases. In effect, you will be able to fight with the many spells you will have learned, but also use potions, or even magic plants such as Mandrake (whose cry will disconcert your enemies) or Fantastic Beasts, like the Niffler. Thus, the fights, very dynamic, will require a part of strategy.
On this subject: not content to propose many places already very identified by fans of the novels and the cinematographic sagasuch as the Quidditch pitch, the Prefects’ bathroom or the Hogsmeade village, Hogwarts Legacy will summon the very rich bestiary of the Wizarding World. You will come across Thestrals, Trolls, Ghosts, Goblins, etc. during your journey.
Although the game is called Hogwarts Legacythe action will not take place only within the school. You can visit its surroundings on a broomstick or on the back of a hippogriff, go shopping for clothes or potions. It is a true open world, which seems particularly rich. To push the experience further, the developers also planned a cycle of seasonswith phases of good weather, rain or snow.
And who says Hogwarts and the Wizarding World, also says the power of friendship. In effect, during your year at Hogwarts, you will have to make friends with your classmates, whether in your Common Room or those of others. With them you will sometimes have to taking risks, and disobeying some school rulesbut your links will be unbreakable.
