Whereas Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will land in theaters in May 2023, James Gunn reveals new details on his TV movie holiday specialexpected this year on Disney+.

In 2020, James Gunn, director Guardians of the Galaxy, announced the preparation of a project around Star Lord, Rocket and the other special end-of-year celebrations. This Christmas TV movie is expected on the streaming platform in December 2022 and will allow you to discover the Guardians of the Galaxy in a completely different context, that of the holidays! Like Wanda Vision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier or Lokithis 40-minute short film will only be available only on the streaming platform. A few months ago, the filmmaker specified that it was essential to see what holiday special to understand the plot of the third volume Guardians of the Galaxy : “You’re going to learn things that you need to learn before Volume 3, and it’s great, I’m really happy about it. (…) I’m going to film it at the same time as the film. I use a lot of the same setsthe same actors obviously, so we are shooting at the same time as the film, but it will have to be edited and finish it sooner.”
Holiday Special Will Introduce Highly Anticipated New Characters To The MCU
If we hadn’t received any new information about the Christmas TV movie until then, James Gunn has just granted an interview to RadioTimes. He took advantage of this interview to specify that the special holiday “is the best thing he has done in his life so far” and that everyone who had the chance to see the project exclusively loved it. As you understood, Guardians of the Galaxy Special Holydays will highlight the members of this MCU super team, but not only. This short film should also be the opportunity to integrate new characters to the franchise and one of them seems particularly important in the eyes of James Gunn for him to describe it as “one of the greatest MCU characters all time”. To anticipate the disappointment of some when his name will be revealed, he prefers to admit that his personal tastes are “sometimes strange and subjective”.
James Gunn recalls that Guardians of the Galaxy Holydays Special will land in December on Disney +, which is therefore only a few months to wait. The filmmaker admits he was surprised to learn that the TV movie’s script had received more praise than that of the third volume Guardians of the Galaxy. “It’s really funny and unlike anything we’ve ever seen before”concludes the director.
