Fleabagging… what is it?

If the terms “ghostlighting”, “gaslighting”, “future faking” are part of your vocabulary… Then it’s time to add fleabagging to your list. Indeed, according to the Urban Dictionary, fleabagging is about dating people who are not compatible with you. A new love trend named after the eponymous British series Fleabag created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

As a reminder, throughout the series, Fleabag, a young thirty-year-old in search of the ideal partner, has a series of romantic misadventures.

Fleabagging… a new trend!

Hayley Quinn, a coach-expert in romantic relationships explains, in the columns of the British Cosmopolitan, the reasons why this trend, Fleabagging, is more and more frequent:

“This phenomenon is largely due to unrealistic ideas about romance, which are nurtured by books and movies…If we expect love to be a constant battle, then we are more likely to accept behaviors that we should not adopt in our relationships ““.

A self-destructive love trend?

Indeed, if you practice “fleabagging”, it means that you always meet the same types of people. This even if they are bad for you.

Also, you tend not to learn from your mistakes or take a different approach to finding the love of your life. All the same, you still keep hoping for the best, but you end up being disappointed every time.

Fleabagging: what solutions to get out of this situation?

You are a fan of fleabagging, there is a good chance that all your former partners are alike. Moreover, it is a trap in which it is easy to fall. Especially since it is difficult to spot toxic relationships when you are in the middle of it. Do not worry ! There are many ways to break the curse.

First, we must realize that there is undoubtedly a problem. Do your relationships always end the same way? Do you often meet the same type of people? If you find that a habit isn’t working for you, it might be time to stop repeating it.

“How you treat yourself also determines how others treat you. If you aren’t able to offer yourself attention and respect, your partner will notice and may not offer it to you either, which can create an unhealthy relationship dynamic,” says Kate Moyle, psychotherapist specializing in psychosexual relationships, for the British media GQ Magazine.
