Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: This theory suggests that Dr Strange will be the villain of the film

A brand new theory just came out regarding the movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Indeed, many hypotheses suggest that our hero Dr Strange could ultimately be the big villain of Sam Raimi’s film. We explain to you.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: the movie of all surprises

Expected May 4 in dark rooms, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness keeps talking about him. Directed by Sam Raimithe film will tell how Dr Strange will have to solve the problems brought by Spider-Man: No Way Home. Indeed, now that the multiverse has been opened and glimpsed, the former Sorcerer Supreme will have the heavy task of moving around the multiverse to repair his mistakes.

In addition to the presence of Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the film will present many characters from old licenses, from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) directly or even completely new. We know that The Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) will notably be in the film. At present, we do not yet really know who will be the main antagonist of the feature film. Some think it will be Dark Strange from the series What If…?others think it will be The Scarlet Witch, finally some imagine that Shuma-Gorath, the creature of the series What If…? will be the main antagonist of the feature film. But a new theory suggests that Dr Strange himself could be the main villain of the story.

First point: the Dark Strange could be our Strange

We know that Doctor Strange will face his evil double during the film. Dark Strange was featured in the series What If…?. In his universe, his wife Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) dies. He uses all the magic at his disposal to change the course of time and try to save his beloved from an inevitable death. He turns to all types of magic possible and imaginable, even black magic. In his quest for rescue, Strange ends up losing his mind, and becomes a dangerous and violent shadow of himself: Dark Strange. Well this character will be present in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessalso played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

The theory around this variant of Strange is quite simple. She offers to reverse views and perceptions by explaining that Dark Strange is in fact the Doctor Strange of our universe.. After all, our universe’s Dr. Strange failed to overcome his arrogance. On the contrary, he cultivates it in particular in No Way Home where he uses magic for selfish purposes and contrary to the general interest. The nice Strange could therefore be a character from another reality responsible for stopping the Dark Strange, who would therefore be the Dr. Strange of our own reality, in any case that of the MCU. It’s quite an interesting theory and easily achievable through a simple inversion of points of view.

Second point: Dr Strange is in prison

Second element concerning this theory: Strange’s arrest by the Illuminati. This part of the theory relies on a shot from the trailer in which Stephen Strange appears before the court of the Illuminati. Visibly, the latter consider Dr Strange to be a threat to the multiverse, and that he must be locked up. A theory which is also based on the presence of certain plans which see Dr. Strange handcuffed, at the bottom of a cell.

In a recent interview, Patrick Stewart gave this theory even more credence. He indeed underlined the dangerous aspect of Dr Strange and his character. He thinks he’s a hero to watch very closely:

Professor X would be extraordinarily careful and watchful, and perhaps feel a bit anxious. Because there is something that is… potentially dangerous about Dr Strange, and I think that would put Professor Xavier on his guard.

Third point: the influence of the Darkhold

For those who sleep at the back of the class, the Darkhold is a black magic book featured in the series Wanda Vision. Grimoire used by Agatha Harkness, it ends up in the hands of Scarlet Witch, who chooses to study it to find a way to bring her children back to life. The problem, is that this book is extremely bad and can have a harmful influence on its user.

The various trailers of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness show that Dr. Strange will use this magic book for purposes still unknown. But Darkhold spells must be handled with care, lest they awaken the ancient god Chthon. This effect of corrupting the book could thus totally affect Dr Strange, who is already emotionally fragile. While waiting for the release of the film in less than a month, we let you tell us what you think of this theory.
