Doctor Strange 2 : in the heart of Wanda
Doctor Strange 2 is coming very soon with its big hooves to explode our understanding of the multiverse, and with it its multitude of new characters, but also old ones. For example, we know that some X-Men characters will be present, such as Professor Xavier, as well as other lesser-known characters from the Marvel Universe. Indeed, here we will focus on the other major protagonist of the film: Wanda Maximoffand what she recovered at the end of her dedicated series Wanda Vision. According to a source inside Marvel, this artifact will be of great importance in the course of the film.
Because this artifact is none other than the Darkhold, the book of the damned in French. A very powerful object that she stole from Hagatha Harkness at the end of Wanda Vision, and whose possibilities she explores in the post-credits scene. Having realized her status as a Chaos witch and having already exploded the Multiverse to find her husband and children, we see her succeed in reconnecting with her two sons thanks to the powers of the book. In an episode of the American podcast The Phase Zero Marvel Studios Prop Master Russell Bobbitt having already worked for Wanda Vision explained that he had also been commissioned to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And during the discussion, he reveals some interesting information about the Darkhold and its place in the plot:
The Darkhold will have an important place in the plotbecause Doctor Strange 2 is the best film to introduce this fantastic object. We asked ourselves “how and where can we explore the history of this object?” And the obvious answer was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. They sent me an interesting version of the item blueprint, and I made them a beautiful new version of the Darkhold.
Doctor Strange 2 : a Lovecraftian film?
There is still a lot of speculation around Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The fact that the latter is going to play a big role makes sense given the latest trailers and posters for the film. These last revealed a lot about Wanda. Dark magic in the MCU seems to have a physical impact on its users, as evidenced by Agatha’s blackened fingers and eyes. Elements that Wanda also shares in the film’s teasers. She’ll use the Darkhold in the film, and maybe it’ll even be the source of their problems by creating a breach in the multiverse. Even better, it means Wanda’s story is far from over, and if you are a fan of Marvel comics, you know what this means, and what events it leads to: House of Marvel.
If we already know that one of the film’s villains will be the dark version of Stephen Strange, already visible in the spin-off series What If…?, Wanda will at some point pass over to the dark side of magic. Her desire to find her children combined with the corrupting black magic of the Darkhold greatly increases the likelihood that Wanda will become a main antagonist in the MCU in the future.
