Disneyland: less than a year after opening, the park is closing this controversial attraction for good

While Disneyland Paris is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, on the other side of the Atlantic, the Walt Disney World Resort has been celebrating its 50th anniversary since October 1, 2021. For the occasion, the American park has decided to celebrate this anniversary as it should with shows and new attractions. However, less than a year after it opened, Disneyland decided to close one that was controversial.

Disneyland makes a drastic decision

Indeed, among the festivities proposed on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the amusement park, visitors could enjoy Disney KiteTails, a kite show that takes place in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The public can thus see choreographies of kites representing Simba, Zazu, King Louie, Baloo and many others soar through the sky above the Discovery River Amphitheater.

This show quickly went viral on social media and not for a good reason. Indeed, many visitors have posted videos of the show of these kites crashing on the body of water or getting stuck in a tree or in the stands.

To the point that some visitors do not hesitate to make fun of the show by calling it so bad it’s become one of Disney World’s most popular !

Faced with this “failure” and the bad buzz around Disney KiteTails, Disney made a radical decision. In effect, the American park has decided to cancel the show as of May 26. A rather rare decision at Disney to purely and simply close an attraction after only less than a year of existence. The park specifies however that the attraction will continue to be present but in a different form. Visitors will still be able to enjoy the kite figures around the Discovery River Lagoon but it’s not yet clear how. What is certain, however, is that the artists on the ground will no longer be called upon.
