Last month, we announced that the Marvel series available on Netflix were about to leave the SVOD platform shortly. It is now done and these are now available exclusively on Disney +. A logical platform change, but one that particularly worried fans for a specific reason.
The Marvel series: separate projects
If the comics are innumerable, for the general public, Marvel works are above all cinematographic. Since 2008, international successes have indeed multiplied with the saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which today literally crushes the competition. But the most assiduous fans know that having watched the 27 feature films already released in cinemas is no longer enough if you want to grasp all the challenges of this rich universe.
It is thus on the small screen that Marvel has also been betting for several years, through numerous series, all available on Disney+. “All”, or almost. Until a few weeks ago, series produced by Marvel Televisions were only available on Netflix. Among them : Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, The Punisheror The Defenders. Projects known to be less “mainstream”which do not hesitate to stage sex and violence in a much more explicit way than in the works of Marvel Studios.
When we had confirmation that these series would indeed land on Disney +, a concern pointed the tip of his nose: what if Disney censored certain scenes to make them more accessible? Well rest assured, this is not the case!
no disney censorship
With its Disney+ streaming platform, the big-eared firm has a fairly strict policy regarding its productions, since these must be “kids friendly” or, more concretely, PG13. More mature content is more intended for the Hulu platform. It is for this reason that the recent arrival of Marvel Televisions series on Disney+ in the United States and Canada was somewhat dreaded.
Corn IGN embarked on meticulous work, consisting in compare the Netflix and Disney+ versions side by side, through the viewing of nearly 400 episodes. To our delight, absolutely no form of censorship or modification whatsoever could be observed ! Among the examples cited: Daredevil and Elektra still have the right to their sex scene in episode 5 of season 2 of Daredevilwhile the Bushmaster can still be seen enucleating (removing the eye) a man with a knife in the Season 2 premiere episode of Luke Cage. We let you check the rest for yourself. The explanation for this choice is probably to be found in the fact that it is possible to set up an age verification limiting accessible content.
So, does this information reassure you to the point of making you want to (re)start these different series via Disney+? If so, you will have to be patient: for now, we don’t know when the French version of the platform will host DaredevilJessica Jones and consort.
