For brain development, babies need plenty of sleep. Indeed, when they do not get enough sleep, it can lead to language and behavioral disorders. However, there are some do’s and don’ts to avoid disturbing your baby’s sleep.

Not recognizing when your baby needs sleep

Sometimes parents can wait until the baby starts crying before bedtime. However, there are other signs that your child is sleepy. To tell you that he is tired, he may look away, frown, clench his fists. Or rub your eyes and ears.

Not teaching him to calm down on his own

To be able to fall asleep without your help… Your baby sometimes needs to learn how to self-soothe. Indeed, do not react to the different noises he makes when he sleeps. It doesn’t always mean he’s awake and needs you.

Indeed, one study found that children whose parents waited longer to react to their awakening learned to self-soothe better. You could disturb his sleep by coming to check on him right away.

Not having a bedtime routine

Now your baby needs a bedtime routine. Besides, it can help him fall asleep more easily. Respecting a bedtime schedule is now essential so that your little one learns when it’s time to go to bed. He will eventually fall asleep much faster.

Remove all noises so as not to disturb his sleep

So that your baby can sleep, do not seek to eliminate all the noises of the house. In fact, if you teach him to sleep quietly, it could disrupt his sleep later on, if there’s no way to eliminate all sources of noise.

Do not play with your baby

Babies need stimulation during the day. In fact, the more tired they are at night, the easier they will fall asleep. So think about doing activities for him during the day. For example, take him for a walk, sing with him, talk to him, play blocks with him…

Put him in a new bed too quickly

If you change your baby’s bed too quickly, it could therefore disturb his sleep. Accustomed to the limits of his crib… Your child might get up in the middle of the night and wander around the house.

When he starts to get out of his crib on his own… You can consider putting him in a bigger bed.

Keep him awake longer thinking he’ll fall asleep faster

Some parents believe that keeping their baby awake longer will make them more tired and fall asleep faster and longer. Which is wrong.

In fact, it could have the opposite effect and disrupt his sleep schedule. Also, older children need longer naps.

Letting your baby oversleep during the day

Generally, a newborn baby needs between 13 and 15 hours of sleep per day. However, as he gets older, he shouldn’t sleep more than 3 hours during the day. So if your child sleeps too much during the day, it could now disrupt his sleep at night.
