After The Last of Us, this French video game masterpiece will be adapted into a series

What an exciting time for video game enthusiasts who dream of seeing their favorite worlds come to life on the small and big screen. While we are still eagerly awaiting the series The Last Of Usthis masterpiece of the French video game will be adapted in series.

A very ambitious series

It would seem that the fashion is for adaptations of video games in TV series. While the TV series Cuphead is triumphing on Netflix, and Naughty Dog fans are eagerly awaiting the series release The Last Of Usproduced by the legendary HBO channel, we have just learned that a French video game will soon be entitled to its television adaptation.

It must be said that, contrary to what some people may think when it comes to French productions, France is a veritable breeding ground for video games, and many masterpieces have been developed by studios in our region. We think in particular of Life Is Strange, Dishonored, Beyond Good & Evil or A Plague Tale: Innocence.

The latter, developed by the Bordeaux studio Asobo, will soon be entitled to its adaptation into a TV series, while fans are impatiently awaiting its sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiemwhose trailer was unveiled at E3 2021. As a reminder, the game immerses us in 1348, in a medieval France ravaged by the Hundred Years War, the Black Death and the Inquisition. We follow the adventures of Amicia de Rune, 15, and her brother Hugo, five, pursued by Lord Nicholas, who is trying to capture Hugo to hand him over to the Grand Inquisitor, Vitalis Bénévent.

Very well received by the press and the public, the video game will therefore be brought to the small screen by filmmaker Mathieu Turi, who with Hostilehas become a true rising star of horror cinema. He was also Quentin Tarantino’s assistant director on Inglourious Basterds. A choice for the less judicious, therefore, for this TV series after all very promising.

Series A Plague Tale will be produced by studio Merlin Productions. Its manager, Fabrice Renault, explained his ambitions for this TV series.

It is fundamental for me that our productions reflect French talents and know-how. A Plague Tale is a game designed in Bordeaux by Asobo that we produce with a company based in Paris; its creators had the opportunity to sell the adaptation in the United States, but they preferred to work with French people: I want to restore that trust in them.

Note that the series A Plague Tale is not the only French production that we should all be waiting for. We recall that the En Avant Simone studio is working on an adaptation of not even deadthe first volume of the magnificent Celtic Fantasy cycle Kings of the Worldwritten by Jean-Philippe Jaworski (Janua Vera, Win the War). We look forward !
