After Marvel, Epic Games and LEGO will create their own metaverse

It’s an unexpected collaboration that is looming on the horizon: LEGO and Epic Games have announced an unprecedented collaboration whose objective is to create their own metaverse. It is therefore a virtual world probably filled with LEGO that you will be able to explore in the next few years. We share with you the first information communicated by the two firms.

The Metaverse Explosion

The more time passes, the more internet and digital play a central role in our daily lives. A place so big, moreover, that full-fledged “worlds” are gradually emerging online. A concept not so recent as that, since Sony already offered for example with the Playstation 3 the Playstation HOME, a virtual and community world for the players.

Because since these are places whose objective is in a way to live a virtual life parallel to ours and interact with people from all over the world, the video game is the ideal ground for what is called the metaverse (or metaverse) to develop. Whether on the side of Marvel, Facebook (which renamed itself Meta for the occasion), or others, these virtual worlds are becoming a real business, in which Epic Games have decided to rush, in particular to whom we owe Fortnitethe Epic Games Store or the Unreal Engine, and the largest toy manufacturer in the world. what is LEGO.

The objective of this collaboration “long-term”: “to build an immersive, creatively stimulating and engaged digital experience for children of all ages to enjoy together”. Put more simply, it will be a metaverse dedicated to the youngest.

A true metaverse for children

The main argument put forward in the press release published by Epic Games and LEGO to highlight their future metaverse is therefore that children are the main target. To reassure the most skeptical, the two firms indicate thatthey will make children’s safety and respect for their privacy the top priorities (we will wait to verify this for ourselves). All to allow them to play and stimulate their creativity thanks to the implementation of creation tools. Here is what Nils B. Christiansen, CEO of LEGO, says:

Children love to play in the digital and physical worlds and move naturally between the two. We believe there is enormous potential for them to develop skills that will serve them for a lifetime. such as creativity, collaboration and communication through digital experiences. But we also have a responsibility to make them safe, inspiring and beneficial for everyone. Just as we’ve protected children’s safety in physical play for generations, we are committed to doing the same for digital gaming. We look forward to working with Epic Games to build this exciting and fun future. Nils B. Christiansen

A fairly agreed statement therefore, which does not concretely reveal much about the form that this metaverse will take and what we will find there, although Epic regularly tries to exercise on Fortnite. Do we just understand that the community and collaborative aspects will be preponderant. We will therefore have to wait to find out more.
