After GTA The Trilogy, Rockstar is preparing to revive these two video game monuments

Whereas GTA 6 is long overdue and that the remastered trilogy of old titles in the saga has not convinced players at all, this does not prevent Rockstar Games from looking again at old games that marked their era. The Remedy Entertainment studio has thus announced that it is working on two major remakes, which the publisher of GTA or Red Dead Redemption fund out of its own pockets. We look forward !

Remakes of two cult PS2 games

Lazy remasters, remakes that distort the original works… The fad of reviving past gaming glories has never been so hot, but it’s never been so criticized either. We must admit that if it’s nice to be able to dive back into a game that we enjoyed years ago, but brought up to date, the industry is literally overdosed on remakes and other remasters. The quality is also not always there, as evidenced by the highly criticized trilogy GTA remastered released a few months ago.

So has Rockstar learned from its mistakes? Yes and no. We learned just yesterday that the publisher was looking again at titles from the PS2 era. But this time, these are remakes, moreover of two cult games from the early 2000s: Max Payne and its sequel, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. The surprise announcement comes straight from Remedy, the studio behind the two original titles released in 2001 and 2004, which will once again be in charge here.

We are pleased to announce that we will remake the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, in a new development agreement with Rockstar Games.

We are happy to announce that we are working on remakes of the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, under a new development agreement with Rockstar Games.

Ambitious remakes

Yes the project is still in its infancy and that we will therefore have to be patient to get a precise idea of what awaits us, the first information has already been communicated. First, we know that these remakes will be developed under Remedy’s in-house engine, Northlight, already used on their previous game control, as well as on top Alan Wake 2 that we are eagerly awaiting. The studio should also be able to take full advantage of it, sincethese will be AAA (big budget) games that will only be available on PC, Xbox Series and PS5. The opportunity to surpass their little brother Max Payne 3released in 2012 and directly developed by Rockstar.

It will now be necessary to be patient and above all to hope that Rockstar will not impose untenable deadlines on Remedy. The remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 could indeed pay off by titillating nostalgic players while attracting newcomers to a dark story worthy of the best noir films, as poor Max Payne embarks on a bloody vendetta to avenge the death of his wife. We can’t wait to find out more!
