Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has barely been released when all eyes are already on the future of the MCU. It must be said that this one looks particularly promising and that many new productions await us. Among them, Deadpool 3, which will be the only film of the trilogy to integrate the MCU. But a cut scene from the first could also be incorporated into it, one way or another.
A cut scene rich in elements to exploit
In 2016 came out Dead Pool, a superhero film centered on the character of Wade Wilson, played by Ryan Reynolds. If its very offbeat tone and its sometimes extremely heavy humor were not so well received by everyone, Tim Miller’s feature film still served as aquite a breath of fresh air in the genre of superhero movies. Followed by Deadpool 2 in 2018, on the other hand, the fans had to arm themselves with patience to the third film, which still has no release date.
He will be the first – and only – of the trilogy to be fully part of the MCU. Suffice to say that Marvel Studios intends to mark the occasion, and this could go through the canonization of a scene deleted from the first film, which could either be introduced into Deadpool 3, is simply mentioned. This is the one where we see Ajax, famous antagonist of the anti-hero, getting out of prison. And not from just any prison, sinceit is the Raft, an ultra-secret high-security prison located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean (note that we also see a SHIELD vehicle.
She is fully part of the MCU and has been mentioned many times, in addition to appearing in Captain America: Civil War. Imagine an enemy of Deadpool, Ajax, attacking him after leaving the Raft: it would make him a go-to villain for Shawn Levy’s upcoming feature film, while strengthening the connection between him and the rest of the MCU.
Introducing a new team of superheroes?
If you saw Dead Pool, you saw that Ajax is supposed to be dead, killed by the anti-hero. But Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios might just choose to canonize this cut scene and not all of Wade Wilson’s old adventures. Another solution, that of the facility: appeal to the multiverse to justify the presence of the character.
As for Deadpool 2, the film proved that the character played by Ryan Reynolds was somehow able to work as a team. However, we know the propensities of the MCU to make its characters ally with each other to fight against ever greater threats. And while it’s hard to imagine Deadpool joining a new Avengers team likely led by Doctor Strange, he could probably fit better among a group with more nuanced personalities, made up of superheroes as well as antiheroes and former supervillains: the Thunderbolts, around which revolves the recurring theme of redemption. A theme that would suit Wade Wilson, author of many, many murders in the past.
An idea all the more interesting since Phase IV of the MCU allows screenwriters to take many freedoms thanks to the multiverse and that she seems particularly inclined to introduce new characters (Shang-Chi, the Eternals…). Moreover, to return to the specific case of the Thunderbolts, one of its emblematic members in the comics is none other than Venom. And since the clues suggesting that Tom Hardy’s symbiote will soon land in the MCU, we are entitled to dream a little, right?
