A discovery similar to a fictional scenario
A story similar to that of the series The 7 lives of Léa, just released on Netflix. Currently, the American West suffers a historic drought due to greenhouse gases generated by human activities. Mainly because of fossil fuels, the planet has already warmed about 1.1°C since the pre-industrial era.
The drought caused the level of lakes and rivers to drop dramatically, as was the case of Lake Mead, near Las Vegas. Fed by the Colorado River, this lake recently reached its lowest level since 1937. According to the report compiled by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Colorado’s flow has dropped an average of 20% over a centurya fall caused by the rise in temperature in the area.

In addition to the ecological drama that it implies, this historic drought had a surprising consequence… As revealed by our colleagues from the Huffington Post, boaters have made a macabre discovery on this dry lake : they have indeed found a human skeleton, placed in a metal drum on the dry bank.
According to the first elements revealed by the police, it would be of a person who died in the 1980s. Investigators relied on items found around the deceased to estimate his date of death. As long as the victim has not been identified, however, they have not revealed which objects were involved. The chilling thing is that Las Vegas police Lt. Ray Spencer clarifies to 8newsnow.com that this discovery could be the first of a long series : “I would say there is a very high chance that we will discover new human remains as the water level goes down.”
