The monumental success that has been Spider-Man: No Way Home has reinforced the fans in the possibility that, on the part from Sony and Marvel, anything was possible. The rumor of a possible Spider Man 4 from the adventures of Peter Parker embodied by Tobey Maguire circulates on the networks, and is widely defended by its director, Sam Raimi who has very much want to return to leading the character’s adventures.
Spider Man 4: a condition imposed by Sam Raimi
You read correctly, there is a huge enthusiasm around the realization of Spider Man 4 on social networks. The film is not planned, but fans would love to see Tobey Maguire back as Peter Parker. Currently on sale for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Sam Raimi does not hide his love for Spider-Man in his speeches to the media, including this one about his favorite Marvel superhero. The director also spoke to the media RollingStone on the conditions he would like to impose on Sony and Marvel to realize this hypothetical Spider Man 4:
I don’t know if it’s possible, if Marvel is interested, but I would love to work with Tobey and Dunst again. The whole team was great. I realized after doing Doctor Strange that anything was possible in the Marvel universe. I don’t have a plan, no story yet, but I’d like to see it come together. If there is a new story, it would have to meet certain conditions. They’d be the same ones that stopped me then [pour Spider-Man 3]. Does Tobey want to do it? Is there a bow for him? Is there an emotional arc for his character? A new great conflict? A big bad that matches the theme of the film? Lots of questions that will need to be answered if we want to remake a Spider-Man 4 movie.
A condition therefore that is not linked to a technical or material question on the film, but purely to what it will be necessary to tell in the film. Something that can be easily added and will be interesting to see on screen, not least because Sam Raimi also made mention of a new villain who would be very valuable in this new story.…
Spider Man 4 : the best hunter in the multiverse?
In effect, Sam Raimi already has a clear idea of the villain he wants to add in Spider Man 4 and it’s none other than Kraven the Hunter, one of the Spinner’s most beloved adversaries since he was one of the few to have already defeated the Spinner and don his guise. Its addition to Spider Man 4 would be necessary according to the director, very frustrated not to have been able to do this before:
This is one of the possibilities. I missed Kraven the Hunter. I’ve always wanted to see Kraven fight Spider-Man on the big screen, and was frustrated not seeing him in No Way Home. He’s the ultimate hunter, and Spider-Man the ultimate prey, the most agile trickster in the skies. And I also want to see Peter continue to move forward as a human being.
All this would therefore be purely hypothetical, but it would make a very good scenario. We can imagine it in a style approaching the film Loganfilled with spleen, with an aging Spider-Mandeciding to retire as it was shown in No Way Home. Tobey Maguire might be looking for a successor, and Kraven would realize that the Spinner is the last missing prey on his roster. Succeeding in locking him in his coffin, as was the case in the comics, he would take his place for 2 weeks, then satisfied, would end his life. Leaving the succession to both a replacement for Spider-Man, random Miles Morales or Spider-Gwen, but also to one of the many descendants of Kraven seeking to bring him back to life by sacrificing a Totem Spider since vampires were introduced with Morbius. If you have read the comics Spidermanyou know this idea partly came from the arc Kraven’s Last Hunt and possibly one of the best in the narrative canon Spiderman written by JM DeMatteis. But that’s unlikely to happen since Sony already has a Kraven the Hunter-centric movie slated for 2023. We’ll have to wait to find out more.
