Twitter: Jeff Bezos launches this spade on Elon Musk after his takeover of the company

the billionaire Elon Musk continues to hit the headlines following his official takeover of Twitter. Interesting question. Has the Chinese government just gained some influence in the public arena?

After reaching an agreement on Monday, Musk called Twitter a “digital public square” and made his faith in open debate a central goal of the acquisition. But the takeover has sparked a debate about the implications that a powerful and wealthy individual like Musk, with multiple business interestsor in possession of a platform used by 217 million people and which plays a major role in shaping the political and media agenda in the United States and elsewhere.

The founder and executive chairman of Amazon, however, clarified his comments in later tweets., stating that any Chinese pressure was unlikely to result in censorship. He said:

My own answer to this question is probably no. […] But we’ll see. Musk is extremely good at navigating this kind of complexity.

As reported The Guardianthe White House declined to comment on the sale of Twitter, but said Joe Biden has long worried about the power of social media. Jen Psaki, White House spokeswomansaid on Monday:

Our concerns are not new. The president has long spoken about his concerns about the power of social media, including Twitter and others, to spread misinformation.

Musk’s takeover of Twitter, which must first be approved by Twitter shareholders before being completed this year, proved controversial even among platform employees. Speaking at a town hall meeting after the deal was announced, Parag Agrawal, CEO of Twittertold employees that the future direction of the social network was uncertain.
