Netflix: after Fast & Loose, the platform cancels this other big film project with Will Smith

The fallout from the slap given by Will Smith to Chris Rock, at the 2022 Oscars, were quick to make themselves felt. The actor, who was awarded at this ceremony for his performance in The Williams Methodtoday saw many of its projects to be suspended or even completely cancelled. On the side of Netflix, after the film Fast & Looseit’s the turn of this other production, featuring the actor in its cast, to see his development completely called into question…

This long-awaited film canceled by Netflix

According to a new report published on its website, Bloomberg recently unveiled that a new series, hosted by Will Smith, had been delayed, following an incident at the Oscars that put the actor in the heart of turmoil. This project, commissioned by National Geographic, should therefore see the light of day a little later in the year.

But this is not the only production canceled, delayed or suspended, because of the presence of the actor in his casting. Shortly after publishing his article about this series produced by National Geographic, the journalist from Bloomberg announced on Twitter that another project, this time on Netflix, had seen his plans completely changed. He tells :

Netflix also dropped plans to make a sequel to Bright.

NatGeo has delayed the start of production on its big Will Smith show following the Slap. But it’s still happening.

Netflix has also abandoned plans to make a sequel to Bright, but that is unrelated to the incident.@chrispalmeri https://t.co/rj5T5RNc3y

In his tweet, Lucas Show explains that the cancellation of Bright 2 would be “unrelated to the incident (of the slap)”. Of course, there is reason to doubt it, especially when we see all the production houses hold the same speech and yet cancel / postpone projects starring Will Smith.

A new lost project for Will Smith

Shortly after the release of the first film in 2017, Bright 2 has been made official by Netflix. Since the time of its announcement, the production has undergone many updates. The latest was shared with us last summer. At that time, we were told that the script was about to be finalized, after David Ayer left his post as director. Netflix also took advantage of this speech to announce that Will Smith and Joel Edgerton would be back in this sequel.

If you haven’t seen the movie yet Bright, here is a brief topo. The production takes place in a Los Angeles where humans cohabit with orcs and other mythical creatures. The movie was such a hit on the Netflix side that the platform hastened to quickly order a sequel in the process.

With the cancellation of Bright 2, Will Smith still sees a new project pass under his nose. Perhaps he should then change careers, as this close friend of Chris Rock seems to recommend to him.
