Frieza is one of the most iconic villains in the universe of Dragon Ball Z. Already because he regularly returns to the universe of Akira Toriyama. But not only. Without knowing it, Frieza gave birth to four of the most powerful warriors in the DBZ universe. Here’s how DBZ’s most iconic antagonist influenced these mighty fighters through his actions.
Frieza: DBZ’s No. 1 enemy
Frieza first appeared in 1990in volume N°21 of the manga dragonball. Galactic Tyrant, Frieza is San Goku’s most recurring enemy.. As he appears in his own arc in Dragon Ball Zhe then comes back to life in Dragon Ball Super. He also appears in many films of the license like Dragon Ball Z: Baddack vs Frieza, Dragon Ball Z: The Resurrection of For even in the recent Dragon Ball Super: Broly.
Naturally powerful, he does not need to train unlike his main opponents, the Saiyans, who must constantly develop their potential. He’s a formidable fighter, totally devoid of scruples, very intelligent, ruthless, and at the head of a huge galactic army. Without knowing it, during his career, Frieza influenced the fate of some of the most powerful warriors in the universe dragonball.
Thank you Frieza
Already Frieza is responsible for destroying the planet of Saiyans, and has gave birth to the mighty Vegeta. Before being a member of the Z Family, Vegeta worked under Frieza for a time. After meeting and confronting Son Goku, Vegeta learns that his boss is responsible for the destruction of his planet and his people. A revelation that pushes him to change sides and fight alongside Goku. Without this revelation, Vegeta would probably have remained under Frieza’s orders, would never have joined the good guys’ side, and thus would probably never have progressed. Because it’s his constant competition with Goku that pushes him to surpass himself, and to train with the best like Beerus and Whis.
It is also thanks to Frieza that Goku has become so powerful. When Frieza kills the frail Krillin in cold blood, Goku is forced to draw on his resources to become even more powerful and develop his very first Super Saiyan transformation. Then again, without Frieza’s influence, Goku probably wouldn’t have progressed so quickly.
Granolah is also one of these fighters who were pushed to their limits by Frieza. Introduced in Dragon Ball SuperGranolah saw his entire planet decimated by the Mad Tyrant years before the events of Dragon Ball Z. Granolah lost his family and people to Frieza’s army. A tragedy that pushed him down a path of violence and revenge which made him one of the best intergalactic bounty hunters.
It is also thanks to Frieza that Cooler, his brother, decides to intervene. While Cooler and Frieza no longer have a relationship, when Goku kills Frieza, his big brother decides to come out of his silence. In Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revengereleased in 1981, Cooler learns that his brother has been defeated by the mighty Goku. He then decides to go and meet the Saiyan and confront him. Then again, if Frieza hadn’t changed the course of history by dying at the hands of our heroes, Cooler probably never would have come forward.
All this to say that Frieza has a constant influence on the universe dragonball, and that its presence is essential today. Become central character of the universe of Toriyama, he also remains the fan favorite antagonistand it’s always a great pleasure to cross his path.
