The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter. According to the American magazine, an actor from the world famous series Game Of Thrones is currently in talks for play a major role in a production inspired by a video game. This film will have the difficult task of transposing the universe of Minecraft in live action.
“Physical” actors for a “cubic” film
The popular game released in 2011 has become a worldwide phenomenon. It’s about of the best-selling video game in history (with over 200 million copies sold). It is therefore no surprise that several projects are flourishing around this lucrative universe. Currently it is a live-action film project which is in the spotlight. This has been in preparation for many years, and has seen several directors succeed one another over time, such as Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) and Rob McElhenny (MythicQuest), who eventually both jumped ship.
Live-action projects often scare fans. And this is all the more true when they are based on a universe from video games. While movie adaptations of games are all the rage in theaters right now, not all of these feature films are in the same basket, and many don’t appear to live up to their source material.
However, Warner Bros. seems to really believe in the success of Minecraft on the big screen. The production company is also in the process of signing this major adaptation project planned for the cinema. What we currently know about the project is that it will be directed by Jared Hesswho is known for his work on the films Napoleon Dynamite and Super Nacho. In production, we will find Mary Parent, to whom we owe the film Dunesas well as Roy Lee (Infiltrators) and Jill Messick, who unfortunately left us and who will therefore be credited as a producer posthumously.

Actor Jason Momoa is currently in negotiations for play the lead role in the live-action Minecraft planned by Warner Bros. We don’t yet know exactly which character the actor will play. However, given the low number of identifiable figures in the video game, it is easy to bet that it will be the main character of the work, baptized Steve or Alex depending on the skin.
Over time, Jason Momoa has established himself as a size in Hollywood. The actor, who rose to prominence playing Khal Drogo in Game Of Thrones, has made its merry way in the world of cinema. And since then, he has had a string of projects. After interpreting Aquaman in the DCEU and makes a notable appearance in the film Dunes, the actor would therefore be ready to embark on this big project.
Even though some fans seem more than curious to see what this film will look like, it doesn’t seem like any new information, or even images, will be released in the next few months. The film does not currently have a release date. In the event, however, that it is a success, it is a safe bet that a second adaptation will see the light of day, like the film sonic 2, currently in theaters and critically acclaimed.
