It is certainly one of the most anticipated series on Disney+: Percy Jackson. After adapting the first two novels to the cinema in 2010 and 2013, Fox unfortunately failed to convince fans. But good news, in 2020, we learned thata series project was in development with Disney, confirmed by Rick Riordan, the author of the saga. Officially, the project has been launched since this year and today, we know who will be the interpreter of the main role.
An adaptation faithful to the novels
Indeed, after having formalized the launch of the production of a series for Disney + of the literary saga of Rick Riordan, things have accelerated on the casting side. Filming is expected to start this summer and will stage the events that occur in the first opus, The Lightning Thief published in 2006.
In this first novel, Percy Jackson is a 12-year-old teenager who discovers that he is in fact the son of Poseidon. Zeus, along with others, accuses him of stealing his lightning bolt. The young man will then embark on a quest: that of recovering the flash. To do this, Percy will travel to Mount Olympus, but also to the Underworld, in this first season which will be composed of 8 episodes. And to reassure the fans, the author of the saga who is involved in the project, confirmed that the series for Disney+ will be faithful to the books while bringing some new elements.
A promising young actor to carry the series
Thus, unlike the films, the series for Disney + will feature younger actors. This is confirmed today with the announcement of the main performer of this future series. Indeed, Disney just announced that Walker Scobell will star as Percy Jackson. This 13 year old young actor has just take part in the movie The Adam Project for Netflix alongside Ryan Reynolds and Mark Ruffalo and directed by Shawn Levy. Scobell embodies there the young version of Adam Reed, camped by the interpreter of Deadpool.
Additionally, Disney+ has also released the official description of the character of Percy, which is very close to that of the books :
Percy Jackson is a smart, compassionate kid with a sharp sense of humor. He has always considered himself an outsider, largely because of how the world views his attention deficit disorder and dyslexia. He is impulsive and exuberant and gets angry quickly when things seem unfair to him. But beneath his cynicism lies a loving son and loyal friend who simply wants to do well for those he loves. If only he could find a place where he fits in.
Here is a rather reassuring announcement for this future series Percy Jackson. With his participation in The Adam Project, we imagine that Walker Scobell will make an excellent Percy Jackson. For the time being, this is the only name of the official cast. We still have to wait to find out who will camp Grover and his friend Annabeth, the daughter of the goddess Athena who accompanies him on his adventures.
