Decidedly, the Marvel universe will never cease to surprise us. Already stunning with the Cinematic Universe created by Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios, it is even richer in amazing adventures in the comics. The clever concept of “What if…?”
Despite decades and decades of existence, the Marvel universe still manages to renew itself and offer surprising stories for readers/viewers. And if you’re worried that the formula will run out anyway, Marvel has a ready-made solution: parallel universes! You probably know the concept of the multiverse which will continue to rock the MCU for years to come.
But if you haven’t watched the animated series on Disney+, maybe you’re less familiar with it. the What if…? (literally “What if…?”). Simply put, we follow the Marvel characters through alternate realities. Let’s take the concrete case of the last series of comics of the genre, entitled What if…? Miles Morales (2022), in which the second and youngest Spider-Man discovers a new life for himself with each new issue.
In the first, he notably becomes the Captain America of an alternate reality. But it’s the second issue, which will be out in a few days, that interests us here: What if…Miles Morales…became Wolverine?! You won’t be surprised to learn that in this one, Miles Morales was never bitten by a spider and therefore never became Spider-Man. Instead, it is in the skin of the most popular X-Men in history that he will slip.
A radical change for Miles Morales
It’s through une preview recently published that we can already get an idea of the life of a Miles Morales who would have become a well-known X-Men, in the person of Wolverine. And as much to say thathe is not at all the young man smiling and determined not to kill that we know. It’s quite the opposite ! Here, it seems that by becoming Wolverine, he has become a real killing machine, and we also learn thathe is wanted for the murder of a senator and his entire family by the Sentinels, these over-armed humanoid robots created by the US government to hunt down mutants. Recurring enemies of Logan and the X-Men in the main Marvel universe, but that Morales will obviously have to face alone.
In this parallel reality, the young man never became Spider-Man and lives hunted for decades by giant robots. While he will also have to face the agents of SHIELD, we can’t wait to discover how far Miles Morales / Wolverine is ready to go to ensure his survival, he who, at the antipodes of Spider-Man, is not afraid to get your hands dirty.
